Twilight Eclipse Clothing and Accessories

Twilight Eclipse Clothing and Accessories

The Twilight shirts may be coming out soon and everyone is curious as to what the new designs are going to look like. Of course, there are going to be more Bella, Edward, and Jacob clothes.

There can be more wolf pack, Cullen clan, and Volturi shirts as well. However, for the Twilight production there must] be new characters joining in the mix, therefore there could be new Eclipse clothing to reflect these extra cast members. For example, there will be the addition of Seth who is the youngest of the wolf pack. In addition, we must be introduced to Leah, the only female member of the wolf pack. These two influential characters alone warrant new Twilight clothes and designs.

Then there are also events that [can take place in this production that could be placed on Twilight shirts as well. The blossoming of the dreaded love triangle especially, that would be a bonus for everyone on Team Switzerland who simply must pick between the romantic Edward and the hopelessly sweet Jacob. One design that can be awesome is a white t shirt with the snowstorm on the front and then the moment between Bella and Jacob. That is something that the Eclipse fans must want to see, but maybe not so much the Team Edward fans.  Eclipse shirts are going to be hot pieces after the movie is released and it must be beneficial to the company making them to incorporate the new characters and in the end, more clothes would be sold.

Twilight: Eclipse, aka the pretentiously titled The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, is the third movie in what will be a five film series (the final book, Breaking Dawn, will be split into two movies in order to milk the cash cow as much as possible before it’s all over). I was fairly forgiving with my review of the first film, found the second one to be pretty awful, but found this one to almost, sorta be a good movie.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with David Slade, he’s the guy who directed a real vampire movie called 30 days of Night. While not the greatest vampire flick ever, it had an interesting concept, vampires that were actually scary and plenty of gore that one would expect when humans encounter ravenous vampires not concerned about blending in to society. So when it was announced he would be directing this film, horror fans were a bit intrigued (if confused) by his decision to tackle this franchise.

The opening scene of the film is a definite departure from the previous two, taking place late at night on the rain-soaked streets of Seattle. A young man is being stalked by something dark and fast, and when he’s finally attacked, he lays writhing on the ground letting out a horrific scream. It’s a pleasant change from the first two films.

Sadly, from there we cut directly to Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella (Kristen Stewart) once AGAIN lazing about in an open field of pretty flowers (it gave me flashbacks to Anakin and Padme). And yes, Edward “sparkles” here. Thankfully we pretty much get most of the “sparkle” thing out of the way right here. Bella is still bugging Edward to make her a vampire and he’s finally decided to agree — IF she marries him. She is hesitant about marrying him for some reason, while having no problem joining the ranks of the undead.

Bella’s father (Billy Burke, the most enjoyable aspect of the series to date) is concerned that she is spending all her time with Edward and has no life, even ignoring her friends. He pushes her to see Jacob (Taylor Lautner), with whom she hasn’t spoken in quite a while due to their falling out in the previous film.

Meanwhile, something fishy is going on in Seattle, with many people going missing and others being murdered. The authorities don’t know if it’s gang related or the work of some very busy serial killer. It turns out that vampire-chick Victoria (whose lover was killed by the Cullens) is bent on revenge, and is building a “Newborn” vampire army. Newborns are freshly created vampires, and they are much stronger and savage than vampires who’ve been around for a while. It seems the first two months as a vampire makes you crazy, super-strong (more than usual) and reckless. The Volturi (led by Dakota Fanning) seem to either have a hand in this, or are just letting it happen despite the risk of bringing vampires to light (so to speak).

It’s in this film that the love triangle between Edward, Bella and Jacob comes to a head, with Jacob trying a last ditch effort to when her over. It seems that part of his strategy is to appear in every scene in the film shirtless… Despite the fact that Bella has feelings for him, her feelings for Edward are stronger and much complication ensues.

Eventually the werewolves and the vampires must work together if they are to protect Bella from Victoria and her army of Newborns, despite their generations-deep hatred and distrust of each other.

So… we still have the huge, core problems with the story. WHY is Edward Cullen, a vampire who’s been alive for over 100 years, so insanely in love with this morose, uninteresting teenage girl who’s experienced nothing much in life? Not only does that give him the number one “creepy old guy” award (think about it — he looks young but the guy’s been around for 100+ years), but given his character and background as given in this film, you’d expect him to go for a sophisticated, worldly woman, perhaps in her early 30s.

Jacob, being a teen himself and having known Bella his whole life, I can see being attracted to her. But speaking of Jacob, if Lautner didn’t have his personal trainer’s results going for him, there’d be nothing to the poor guy in this movie. His acting is so weak I feel sorry for the guy. Of course it’s kind of a good match for Stewart I suppose. Pattinson was OK, I guess, but it’s easy to be intense when you just furrow your brow in every scene.

Oh, and those guys in the Wolf Pack? Yeah, they still need to either hit the gym a little harder or cut down on the carbs.

I didn’t like the handheld camera during scenes where it was just actors talking — SO sick of that… like the cameraman has had too many beers and we’re experiencing his overly high blood alcohol level. Then there was also this really weird thing where when one of the newborns was killed or had a body part chopped off, the stump looked like it was crystallized stone or something. Bizarre and a cheap way to include lots of vampire/werewolf mayhem but avoid the blood that would freak out the teen girls who will show up in droves for this.

Oh, and there were so many close ups of so many different people making out that at one point a scene from The Princess Bride where a young Fred Savage questions his grandpa Peter Falk came to mind… “Is this a kissing book?”

On the other hand, David Slade actually raises the bar as much as he can given the material here. The visual effects are FAR better than in the previous two films (although we still have the “confetti pants” effect when there’s a transformation into a werewolf). The wolves look better and more real, and scenes with the vampires running at high speed, leaping, etc. are also vastly improved. Also much better are the action/battle sequences in the film.

Also interesting was some of the background on both individual characters in the film (going back to the civil war) as well as the history and origins of the bad blood between the vampires and werewolves. As mentioned above, Billy Burke brings some pleasantness to the screen every time he appears. Another unexpected but pleasant touch were a few moments of self-deprecating humor which I didn’t expect and actually got a laugh out of me.

Should Kids Be Allowed to Play With Twilight Barbies?

Should Kids Be Allowed to Play With Twilight Barbies?

Barbie toys and dolls are popular toys for kids and many claim that they will never go out of style. Perhaps, one reason for their continued popularity is Mattel’s strategy of adapting the Barbie toys to contemporary settings. For example, the toy company has decided to release Barbie dolls representing the main characters of the book and movie “Twilight,” Bella and Edward.

These Twilight Barbies faithfully depict the innocent face and long brunette hair of Bella and the strong jaw line of Edward. It is also claimed that the glow on Edward’s face that is indicative of his status as a vampire is also evident on the male doll.

Both dolls are scheduled to be released on November 1, 2009 and will be priced at .95. However, some have questioned whether children should be allowed to play with these Twilight Barbies. First of all, Twilight fans are teenagers and young adults. For some, dolls are no longer fit for these ages. Nevertheless, some teens and young adults continue to play with dolls although the emotional and psychological effects are different.

Secondly, the theme of Twilight is not appropriate for young kids because they are better suited to teens and young adults. Thus, children may not be able to identify with the Twilight Barbies unlike the other Barbie dolls that are based on fairy tales. The kids are likely to find that it is difficult for them to incorporate the characters of Edward and Bella into the imaginary world that they enter when playing with dolls.

Thus, it is advisable for parents to buy the Twilight Barbies for their teenage or even young adult children but not for their young kids. It may even be better to purchase these unique Barbie dolls for the purpose of keeping them as collectibles and as investments.

Thor is an avid fan of the Twilight series. He has created a website based upon Twilight Barbie Dolls as he thinks that it makes a great Twilight Collectors Doll.

Movie Review – The Twilight Saga: New Moon

Movie Review – The Twilight Saga: New Moon

7 out of 10

I have to admit after watching the first Twilight I didn’t really understand what all of the buzz was about.  I chalked this up to the fact that I’m not a teenager and I also don’t have a vagina (although sometimes I wish I did).  Don’t get me wrong, by no means did I think Twilight was bad; it was merely okay.  I’ve seen better, I’ve seen worse.  New Moon is a marked improvement upon the first film and I actually found myself getting wrapped up in this modern day retelling of Romeo and Juliet with a supernatural twist.  New Moon still isn’t the best movie I’ve ever seen, but if I were a fourteen year old girl, I’m sure it would be.

Despite taking place in a world of vampires and werewolves, at its core, Twilight has always been a soap opera.  Call it Transylvania 90210.  As this chapter begins, Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson) are still madly in love.  When Edward’s vampire family, the Cullens, throw a surprise 18th birthday party for Bella, things take a bad turn and Edward realizes that the only way to keep Bella out of harm’s way is to never see her again.  Bella falls into a deep depression and only through her friendship with Jacob (Taylor Lautner) does she begin to heal.  Jacob wants to be more than friends and although she has feelings for him, Bella’s heart still very much belongs to Edward.  To complicate matters further, Jacob is a werewolf who spends his free time hunting vampires.  New Moon really is Romeo and Juliet meets West Side Story wrapped in a supernatural candy shell.

This installment has more story, better performances from all involved and more humor, not to mention more action.  Twilight’s core group of fans may be young women, but given a chance, New Moon should have no trouble winning over legions of young men as well.  The action scenes are done very well and are quite thrilling.  The special effects are seamless and I was very impressed with the look of the werewolves.  CGI creatures sometimes look too fake, but the werewolves in New Moon are done really well and have a very realistic quality to them.  Director Chris Weitz has truly improved upon Catherine Hardwicke’s original in every way.  To be fair, I tend to always enjoy the second installment of a series more than the first.  I’ll debate anyone that disagrees that Empire Strikes Back, Spider-Man 2, Superman II and The Dark Knight (just to name a few) aren’t superior to the first films of those series.  Of course there are exceptions such as The Matrix Reloaded and the second Pirates of the Caribbean film, but New Moon definitely falls into the former category.

The thing I liked most about New Moon is its use of humor.  The first film was a bit too dour for my tastes and I kind of felt like I was trapped in this boring, emotive, Goth world.  It is amazing how just a few funny lines can breathe life into a film; even ones that center around a love triangle between a teenage girl, an old vampire and a young stud werewolf.  Despite the injection of humor, New Moon is still filled with plenty (if not too much) teenage angst and melodrama.

Just like the Harry Potter cast, all of the actors have grown in their respective roles.  No actress is better at emoting teenage angst than Kristen Stewart.  She has a “real” quality to her that makes her stand out from most young actresses.  She seems like someone you went to high school with.  Unfortunately the character is a bit of a downer.  It would be nice to see her loosen up a bit.  She is so emotionally draining that I almost had to wonder why all of these men are so taken with her.  Robert Pattinson is much looser in this film than in the first and as a result gives an all around better performance.  I also now understand why Bella is so in love with him.  I still don’t understand why every teenage girl in the world thinks he is so handsome.  To me he looks like someone smashed his face in with a shovel, but who am I to judge?  The real stand out in the film is Taylor Lautner as Jacob.  Despite playing the character in the first film, Lautner almost lost the role in the sequel because the producers felt he was too young to pull off the emotional range of the character.  The actor is completely vindicated here, displaying great maturity and strength in the role.  I know the big debate among Twilighters is Jacob or Edward and after seeing this film, I fall firmly on the side of team Jacob.

The film is a bit too long.  They could’ve cut out quite a few scenes of Bella being depressed.  Otherwise, New Moon is a solidly entertaining film that even those who are not diehard fans of the series can enjoy.  After seeing the first one, I had no real interest in seeing the sequel.  This time around, I have to admit, I’ll be looking forward to part three.  Hell, I might even read the books.
