In the second installment of Stephenie Meyer’s extraordinarily successful Twilight series, the romance between mortal and vampire ascends to a new level as Bella Swan, played by Kristen Stewart probes deeper into the mysteries of the supernatural world as she longs to become a part of it only to find herself in major trouble than ever before.

Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson and his family of vampires abandon the town of Forks, Washington, in an attempt to shield her from the dangers inborn in their world. As the despairing Bella blindly walks through her senior year of high school, unfeeling and alone, she realizes Edward’s image always comes to her each time she puts herself in danger. Her yearning to be with him at any cost finds her taking greater risks.

Taylor Lautner plays Jacob Black, her childhood friend who decided to help Bella in her quest. Bella restores an old motorbike as a reliable means of transportation. Bella’s cold heart is increasingly melted by her burgeoning relationship with Jacob, a member of the mysterious Quileute tribe and is a werewolf in reality. In a race against time, Bella discovers the secret of the Quileutes and Edward’s true impulse for leaving her.

Directed by Chris Weitz, this movie is one exciting piece that is not to be missed. The film also features the original cast as well as new ones which include Ashley Greene, Peter Facinelli, Dakota Fanning, Edi Gathegi, Elizabeth Reaser, Kellan Lutz, Nikki Reed, Jackson Rathbone, Bronson Pelletier, Alex Meraz, Kiowa Gordon, Billy Burke, Chaske Spencer, Rachelle Lefevre, Michael Sheen, Christopher Heyerdahl, Charlie Bewley, Daniel Cudmore, and Graham Greene.

The story has a very good pace and the relationship between Bella and Jacob has a great build up. Even though I’m on Team Edward, while watching the movie, I found myself having a soft spot for Jacob too.
Some of the more tender moments reflected the book more closely. A lot of the lines come directly from the book, but they do not sound cheesy when said out loud, which is not that easy to do. There is also some comic relief throughout the film, which was really welcome and balanced the darker moments well.

Another great improvement over Twilight is that the visual effects are way better this time around. The pack of wolves look pretty damn amazing and scary. And the fight scenes are way more impressive. Even the sparkling of the vampires worked better.

And finally, the actors. Well, I already thought that Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson were good in the first movie, and in New Moon they definitely stepped up their games. Although Robert Pattinson isn’t as much in the movie as Kristen Stewart, it feels like he has a better grasp over who Edward is, which makes his scenes so much more true and interesting to watch. I can’t wait to see what he does in the third movie, Eclipse.
I always thought Kristen Stewart was a great Bella, and in New Moon she is able to get to a real dark place showing us Bella’s despair over Edward leaving her. I’ll even admit that I had tears in my eyes at some point. I really enjoyed her performance.
And of course, Taylor Lautner, who plays Jacob, is front and center in this movie. He definitely went through a huge transformation both physically and acting-wise. I honestly wasn’t sure that he could touch me the way Jacob had touched me in the book, but as I was watching scenes between Bella and Jacob, it was as if I was reading the book all over again. I am definitely impressed and looking forward to seeing more of Taylor Lautner in Eclipse.

We don’t see as much of the supporting cast as these three main actors, but I do want to mention a few of them.
I was really happy to see more of Charlie, played by Billy Burke, in New Moon. Not only that, I also feel like they captured the essence of who Charlie is so much better in this one than in Twilight. He also had quite a few funny lines, which made him even more likable as a father.
The Volturi were definitely scary, but mostly I want to mention what a great Aro Michael Sheen created, he was absolutely wonderful.
We unfortunately didn’t see too much of the Quileute werewolves, and I wish we had seen more of them interact together with Jacob, but overall I think it worked.
As for the Cullens, well there really isn’t much to say since we barely see them in this film. But I always get a kick out of seeing Jasper (Jackson Rathbone), he’s pretty hilarious.

Overall, I think that even non-Twilight obsessed people might enjoy New Moon. It feels like a totally different movie and series compared to what I had come to expect from the first one. I have to give huge props to Chris Weitz for giving New Moon such a great tone and bringing out such brilliant performances from the actors.

Movie review – Angels & Demons (2009)

The fact is that I thought The Da Vinci Code was a passable book which was made into one of the most insultingly stupid films ever. I will say this for Angels & Demons: it is much easier on the eyes and the brains than its predecessor. This is my new twilight music video, i made this video because i can’t wait for new moon to be released. If you haven’t seen the movie or don’t know what it is but like the music from lifehouse and leona lewis (i will be) at the end. Its basically a vampire romance…and possibly based on the best books i have read for some time. Just for fun, I’ve put together several trips to the Olympic Peninsula that roughly coincide with the projected November release of the second “Twilight” series film adaptation, New Moon. In all three scenarios, I used the same airline and car rental agency (because there really wasn’t a better price) which means the main difference, obviously, is in lodgings.

My choices of airports for each scenario are Cleveland-Hopkins, Akron/Canton, and Pittsburgh International. The cheapest rate available for me was at Pittsburgh International, through Delta Airlines. For a 3 day, 2 night round trip ticket from Pittsburgh to Seattle Tacoma International, the fare was 5 per person. The next cheapest was 3 on Frontier Airlines out of Akron/Canton. Since both flights have 1 hour layovers, the question for me becomes “which would be more within my budget: an additional for airfare or roughly to fill my tank twice driving between Pittsburgh and Cleveland”? Add in airport parking fees, and its looking like driving out to PA is the better deal.

Once you arrive in Seattle, you have a 3-7 hour drive ahead of you (depending if you decide to travel northward or southward). For airfare, I used TripAdvisor.com but for the car rental – since I’m a huge fan of William Shatner – I went with Priceline.com. Of all car rental agencies available at the Seattle Airport, Dollar Rental offered the best rates. An economy car is roughly a day or .47 for our 3 day trip.

Your choices of lodgings are based on your accustomed level of comfort and your expected daily travel times. In scenario #1, I chose the Forks Motel. Their off season rates begin from 10/15 to 5/14, so in November the daily rates for a room with one queen sized bed and shower are (single occupancy), (double occupancy) and (double occupancy) for 2 queen beds (why anyone might want two beds for a single occupancy is beyond me, but that rate would be a day). The Forks Motel is located on Highway 101 right in town so you are, essentially, right in the heart of the story. For a two night stay is scenario #1, the total cost is 4-8.

Scenario #2 – We move south of Forks to the Kalaloch Lodge, located right along the pacific coast. Their daily room rates currently ranges anywhere from 9 to 8 single or double occupancy, they are a little pricey but you have your choice of private cabins, the secluded Seacrest Building or staying in the Main Lodge itself. They also offer two “Twilight” themed room packages (1 night for the New Moon package and 2 nights for the Twilight at Kalaloch package, 9+ and 9+ a night respectively) which include a Forks area map highlighting all locations listed in the book, Twilight water bottles, Twilight Trivia and a Special Twilight dessert. The amazing coastal views, beautiful pacific -northwestern woodland surroundings and spectacular room amenities, this is the most comfortable of the three choices but also the most expensive. Since the entire purpose of the trip is a “Twilight” themed weekend getaway, I’d choose the Twilight at Kalaloch room package; making the total cost for the two nights stay 8+.

From the extravagant to the minimal, scenario #3 is the least expensive “travel package” but it requires a certain amount of willingness to “rough it”. The Rain Forest Hostel is 13 miles closer to Forks than Kalaloch and offers common rooms, campsites and trailers for couples. Their daily rates start from per person for the camping areas to per couple for the trailers. They provide blankets and pillows, but there is an additional one time charge of if you don’t provide your own sheets. There is also a full kitchen, showers and laundry room that are shared by all guests and you have to do 15 minutes worth of chores for each night you stay, but really the price can’t be beat. I’m kind of a private person, so I’d either chose a campsite or a trailer, which means my total cost for a 2 night stay in the final scenario would range from to dollars (plus a half hour worth of chores).

Totaling it all together – airfare, car rental, and lodgings – the total cost for each scenario package is:
#1 – 1.47- 5.47
#2 – 5.47+
#3 – 7.47 – 9.47

Airfare and Car Rental prices are subject to change, so the earlier you reserve your trip, the better.

The Twilight saga continues with the release of Stephenie Meyer’s second book, New Moon. It was originally published in hardcover in 2006. It rose to the #1 position on the New York Times Best Seller list for Children’s Chapter Books in its second week on the list, and remained in that spot for eleven weeks. It spent over 30 weeks in total on the list.

The fans of Twilight are very hungry for the New Moon’s film adaptation scheduled for release on November 20, 2009. The film will still include in the cast the stars of Twilight Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, playing their roles as Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, and Jacob Black, respectively. The Summit Entertainment carried out the sequel in late November 2008. It is being directed by Chris Weitz with Melissa Rosenberg returning as the screenwriter. The majority of the film is being shot in Vancouver, British Columbia.
New Moon is the continuation of the complicated young-adult love story of a simple girl, Bella Swan and the vampire she loves, Edward Cullen. According the author, this next book is about losing true love. The title refers to the darkest phase of the lunar cycle, indicating that New Moon is about the darkest time of the protagonist Bella’s life.
The story starts on Bella’s 18th birthday. When Edward and his family throw her a birthday party. While unwrapping a gift, she gets a paper cut, which causes Edward’s adoptive brother, Jasper, to be overwhelmed by her blood’s scent and attempt to kill Bella. To protect her, Edward decides to end their relationship, and the Cullens move away from Forks. This leaves Bella heart-broken.
In the months that follow, Bella learns that thrill-seeking activities, such as motorcycle riding, allow her to “hear” Edward’s voice in her head. She also seeks comfort in her deepening friendship with Jacob Black, a cheerful companion who eases her pain over losing Edward. Bella discovers that Jacob is a werewolf. He and his fellow werewolves protect Bella from the vampires Laurent and Victoria, the latter of whom seeks revenge for her dead mate, James, whom the Cullens killed in Twilight.
Meanwhile, a series of miscommunications leads Edward to believe that Bella has killed herself. Distraught over her supposed suicide, Edward flees to Italy to provoke the Volturi, vampire royalty who are capable of killing him. Alice and Bella rush to Italy to save Edward, arriving just in time to stop him. Before leaving Italy, the Volturi tell Edward that Bella, a human who knows that vampires exist, must either be killed or transformed into a vampire. When they return to Forks, Edward teBack
lls Bella that he has always loved her and only left Forks to protect her. She forgives him, and the book ends with the Cullens voting in favor of Bella being transformed into a vampire after her graduation, to Edward’s dismay.
Indeed, with this very breathtaking plot, the author delivers another enticing mixture of passion and suspense with a supernatural twist. The romance, action and exciting twists and turns this movie is truly much awaited. The fans all over the world are thirsty to see this vampire love saga. This leave them starving for more.
