When writing for other people, it’s not enough to simply write what you think is effective. Though many writers make it look easy enough, the truth is that most writers are readers and book lovers by nature. And in being so, they have been able to absorb the ideas and the tools of many famous authors who have come before them. If you’re looking to become the next Hemingway or Sedaris, you can’t simply write in a vacuum. You too need to become a book lover, one who devours books as though they were essential to life – and they are, for writers.

The Love of the Word

Most writers will tell you they began reading at an early age. While the actual age doesn’t really matter, those who have be exposed to writing for a longer period of time tend to be more familiar and more adept with the written word. Each time you read a book, you will begin to understand more about how sentences are created and which sentences speak true to you. Every writer does have their own unique style, after all. Some use short sentences, while others like to use long and flowing sentences which never seem to stop. Each style is correct, but which one works for you is a matter of taste and voice. By becoming book lovers, writers can ‘sample’ each of the many writing styles available right now in order to begin to see what their voice might be.

Understanding Character Development

While there are a number of writing books that can teach a writer about character development, the truth is that character development is a much more natural process. In reading many books, a writer can begin to see how characters emerge in their favorite books and make mental notes as to how to bring their own characters to life. Book lovers will begin to see how certain authors bring their characters from one point to the next and how characters develop in natural ways – and how some emerge in unique and unexpected ways. But these are lessons which are primarily taught through experience. Only in seeing many characters unfold during books can one truly understand how to do the same in one’s own writing.

Learning about Trends

And since many writers forget that writing is a business, just like any other business, they tend to shy away from reading other books for fear they will be too similar to someone else’s bestseller. While the idea behind this aversion makes sense, book lovers know that there are certain trends in fiction and non-fiction that publishers follow. For example, since “Twilight”, publishers have been interested in similar stories. But had writers not been book lovers using library software, they would not have realized this.

Writers have an obligation to be book lovers as a part of their craft. Not only will they be able to garner inspiration, but they will also be able to learn about writing style, structure, and voice. Hands on training for writing begins with reading – and reading a lot.

This story of this book revolves the central character called Coraline who lives in a very big house which is also inhabited by many other amusing characters. The element of boredom is the central part of the life of this girl who in order to escape the boredom start to count the number of things that have their colour as Blue.

She, therefore, arrives at a door (which is the 14th door that she locates in the course of her counting). The readers of this book might think that the next page would lead on to another stereotypical fairy tale story with the plot resembling somewhat that of ‘the Chronicles of Narnia’ or even ‘Alice in Wonderland’ for that matter.

But this is where the story takes an unexpected twist and one that is liable to take anyone who reads this book by surprise. Though a world exists beyond this door but it is one which is dark, terrifying and houses nothing but nightmarish things of life.

This book is anyway quite an interesting one to read and one should read it at least once in order to grasp the magnificence of the plot.

Another wonderful book which can be given as an example is the second one in the list mentioned earlier and this book is known as the Friday night Knitting club.

The plot of this book is all about friendship with the medium initiating the act of friendship being none other than knitting. The story can be associated with any real life situation and this fact makes this book all the more interesting to anyone who reads it.

These two examples are quite capable of giving an insight about the potential of all those books which are becoming highly popular books this year. In other words, the popular books of 2009 are certainly ones that are capable of making anyone happy and content.

Barbie toys and dolls are popular toys for kids and many claim that they will never go out of style. Perhaps, one reason for their continued popularity is Mattel’s strategy of adapting the Barbie toys to contemporary settings. For example, the toy company has decided to release Barbie dolls representing the main characters of the book and movie “Twilight,” Bella and Edward.

These Twilight Barbies faithfully depict the innocent face and long brunette hair of Bella and the strong jaw line of Edward. It is also claimed that the glow on Edward’s face that is indicative of his status as a vampire is also evident on the male doll.

Both dolls are scheduled to be released on November 1, 2009 and will be priced at .95. However, some have questioned whether children should be allowed to play with these Twilight Barbies. First of all, Twilight fans are teenagers and young adults. For some, dolls are no longer fit for these ages. Nevertheless, some teens and young adults continue to play with dolls although the emotional and psychological effects are different.

Secondly, the theme of Twilight is not appropriate for young kids because they are better suited to teens and young adults. Thus, children may not be able to identify with the Twilight Barbies unlike the other Barbie dolls that are based on fairy tales. The kids are likely to find that it is difficult for them to incorporate the characters of Edward and Bella into the imaginary world that they enter when playing with dolls.

Thus, it is advisable for parents to buy the Twilight Barbies for their teenage or even young adult children but not for their young kids. It may even be better to purchase these unique Barbie dolls for the purpose of keeping them as collectibles and as investments.
