Twilight And The Urban Fantasy Phenomenon
Twilight And The Urban Fantasy Phenomenon
The huge success of the Twilight books, written by Stephanie Meyer, and the subsequent feature film adaptation starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, has brought the Urban fantasy genre to the forefront of genre publishing. SF and fantasy purists may disapprove, but we must all appreciate the fact that Twilight, and things like Buffy before it, have been good for genre publishing as a whole. Why? Because series such as Twilight, Harry Potter and similar franchises are bringing more readers to the genres that spawned them. While these books may not be the best written or best plotted things on the market, they are opening up the minds of young readers to the realms of fantastic fiction in all its forms. Look at it this way: The Twilight books are finite, and once young readers have finished reading the series, they will look for similar titles to read until the next Twilight book comes along. These could be the dark fairy-tales of Neil Gaiman, the vampire hunter books of Laurel K Hamiltion, the varied urban fantasy of Kelley Armstrong, or the excellent vampire novels of S. Roit (aka Sherry Roit), such as the impeccable Paris Immortal. Many bookshops now contain a dedicated Urban Fantasy or Paranormal Romance section, and while SF and fantasy purists such as myself may have our issues with their contents, these books are bringing a new audience into an industry that desperately needs new readers. Some argue that this is not the case, with Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy readers sticking to similar titles once their favourite series comes to an end, but many of these people will move on to other titles as they mature and their tastes change. The paranormal and fantasy genres have always gained from the addition of popular movie tie-ins and movies themselves, and rather than being empty, vapid pieces of trash fiction, they are the doorway to a universe of wonder for new readers to discover. The same goes for movie and TV tie-in merchandise and tie-in novels from franchises such as Star Wars, Doctor Who, Star Trek, Buffy and so on- they help strengthen the publishing industry by offering brand familiarity to people who may not usually read. Twilight has brought a number of young teenaged readers new icons in Edward and Bella, but there are so many other characters and stories for them to discover. See Twilight as a stepping stone to greater things, and welcome the new fans that stick around into the genres of fantasy, science fiction and horror with open arms.

Robert Pattinson Sets Hearts Fluttering in Twilight
Robert Pattinson Sets Hearts Fluttering in Twilight
Now we’ve all heard about some actors and actresses being overnight sensations. But the fact is, many of them feel that called an overnight sensation detracts from the many years of hard work they put in to get to the top. Robert Pattinson, however, is the real deal in overnight sensation. He’s quickly become a hit with Twilight.
The Twilight is a box office sensation, raking in over 0 million in northern America during its first few weeks of release. The movie’s popularity is apparent in the fact that it knocked out the James Bond flick “Quantum of Solace” from the coveted number one spot.
Who is Robert Pattinson?
He is a British born actor, model and musician. You can admire both his good looks and his music in this movie. Not only is he drop dead gorgeous as the vampire Edward Cullen, he also sings quite well. Rob Pattinson’s original song “Never Think” is featured in the soundtrack.
Robert Pattinson also starred in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, where he played Cedric Diggory. He plays the famous artist Salvador Dali in the yet to be released Little Ashes.
For his stellar performance as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter, Times Online dubbed the actor as the “British Star of Tomorrow”. (Well it is only 2008, and some would say that in a vampire calendar 3 years is only a mere tiny window of time.)
Prior to the success of Twilight, Rob Pattinson had been seriously thinking about chucking the acting gig in. However, Robert realized he should take acting more seriously when he thought he may have left it too late in the day.
The Twilight success.
For majority of Twilight readers, Robert Pattinson is Edward Cullen come to life. Robert Pattinson bears more than a passing resemblance to Edward’s description in Stephenie Meyer’s book. Me and my daughter were both amazed at seeing the trailers and posters for Twilight. We thought Robert was perfectly cast for the role.
As every one knows, it’s only a matter of time before fans see the second installment of the Twilight series, New Moon. Production of Twilight is has been for full steam shooting as Edward’s character, like Harry Potter, is frozen in his teen years. The actor needs to complete filming the remaining 3 Twilight stories before he becomes too old to play the role. Robert Pattinson as the drop dead gorgeous Edward Cullen will keep us mere warm blooded mortals coming back for more.
Billy Baker is a critic that has video entitled Pattinson Star of Twilight where he gives greater insights about the movie and the actor.

Twilight: Learning to Overcome Personal Weakness
Twilight: Learning to Overcome Personal Weakness
I admit it! I used to be one of those crazed Edward Cullen fans who, when reading the book Twilight for the first time, actually dreamed of the fictional character on more than one occasion – and I’m a happily married woman! For those of you gagging, good news. I’m well over it. However, in addition to being a ridiculously addictive romance novel, the Twilight story can actually teaches a critical lesson about working through and overcoming personal weakness.
There seems to have been a turn of events in the last century that has caused an unusual paradigm shift in our expectations for ourselves and others. I think it’s fair to say that there was once a time when society encouraged individuals to be the best they could be. Having integrity, working hard, and displaying selflessness were admirable qualities and striving for such was generally expected and celebrated. However, it seems now that rather than striving for our best, we are simply contenting ourselves in “natural” and flawed character, regardless of the fact that what we naturally are may be to our personal detriment – or even harmful to society. In short, we’ve strayed from the “be all that you can be” mentality and replaced it with “just be yourself.” I’m not suggesting that being yourself is always bad. What I am suggesting is that rather than striving to become better and working through personal weaknesses, we are embracing our shortcomings – a choice that only leads to personal and professional mediocrity at best and hinders us from experiencing true joy and success in our lives.
So what does this have to do with Twilight? Those of you who have read the book know that Edward, along with his other vampire family members, choose to become “vegi vampires” having learned to control their appetite for human blood and subsisting only on the blood of animals. When Bella comes along with her potent, drug-like blood, though Edward struggles inside of himself with the overwhelming desire to kill and feast on her, he learns to control his strong urges and soon finds the love of his life in Bella. By sheer will, he was able to make something that was once a weakness, a strength.
While this story may be fictional, the principle is universally true. We all have weaknesses and urges that we may be genetically pre-disposed to or have adopted over time. The truth is, we aren’t doing ourselves or those we love any favors when we simply choose to give into those weaknesses. Unlike animals, we have the willpower and ability to make a choice; the choice to change and to become our best selves. Regardless of what you may have been told, weaknesses don’t have to be a permanent part of your character. You CAN change if you so wish.
I challenge you to make your weak things strong. A simple desire to change will suffice. Then make a plan, take daily action on that plan, and realize your ability to become all that you were meant to be.

Halloween Strange Creatures Costume: the Twilight Vampires
Halloween Strange Creatures Costume: the Twilight Vampires
Are you still clueless about what costume to wear this Halloween? Still stressing out about what Halloween strange creatures to don? Instead of looking like Halloween because of stress and costume troubles, spice up the season with Twilight characters as costumes!
To help you out of your dilemma, I’ve come up with a wise list of Halloween strange creatures from the famous Twilight series that you can rock this Halloween.
Twilight Vampires
Who says you need to go traditional about Halloween strange creatures like vampires? Since Twilight came into the picture, vampires have never been so smoldering hot. Sport the look by wearing gold or yellow contacts and those sexy incisors are a must-have if you really want to get the look right.
Edward Cullen
Put on a rock-and-roll vibe by wearing your casual jeans and t-shirt that scream the Edward Cullen style. To finish the look, match it with bronze hair color, smear a little red on your lips, and make sure that you have a glowing alabaster-like look to your skin. On the other hand, if you want to look like a blood-deprived vampire, wear coal black contacts to recreate the look.
Rosalie Hale
Shock everyone with your electrifying presence as Rosalie Hale by wearing a long straight blonde wig (or a curly one if you like). Don a light beige ruffle baby-doll top and layer it with a white lacy top. Pull the Cullen crest by copying the real thing using hard clay or by just wearing a skull necklace to get the look. Accessorize with red lipstick and big round-loop earrings to accentuate the look. Oh, and don’t forget the bright yellow contacts!
Alice Cullen
As one of Halloween strange creatures, Alice Cullen might be your short stuff, but as they always say, great things come in small packages. Be Alice Cullen by wearing a black wig with a pixie-cut styling. Since she has one of the edgiest fashion sense among the Cullens, you can never go wrong with a little black dress layered with a red cropped jacket. Wear black leather boots, choker and bangles that totally yell rockstar. To really nail the look, wear red lipstick and gold or yellow contact lenses.
Jasper Hale
This tall and lean vampire is a stunner with his disheveled honey blond hair and regal stance. Sport the look by wearing a white long-sleeve shirt, black pants and black leather shoes. Then top the look with gold contact lenses and really pale skin to get the effect. Match the outfit with confidence and attitude and you are ready to rock the house as Jasper Hale.
In this day and age, originality is the name of the game. Who says you need to be like everyone else to make Halloween memorable? All you need are the right set of confidence to rock your costume, a little creativity and a fact or two about these Twilight vampires. Through this Twilight costume tips, become Halloween strange creatures all out to have fun.
