Twilight

This weekend the weather was bad and there was nothing on television. Therefore, I decided to rent the only thing that I hadn’t already seen on PPV. I was astounded at how wonderful the movie was, and immediately wanted to see what my fellow Triond writers thought of Twilight. Of course, I found tons of pro Twilight articles. However, I found one article, “Why To Hate Twilight” that was written to bash the Twilight series. The author, Sarah Rebecca, composed 95 reasons to hate Twilight, most of which I adamantly disagree with. Some of the reasons were just too nonsensical to even address. Reasons like- because it is “stupid”, “dumb , and Harry Potter could beat the main Twilight character with his magic powers, etc… wasn’t worth my time and effort. So, I just picked a few out of the article to rebut here

The rebuttal uses many of her own claims against her. For example, in one breath she claims the series is cliche’. Yet, she also claims that the Twilight series does not follow any of the “rules” that other vampire authors have set. This simply is not sensible. Those who do not Twilight often defame the fans as obsessed. And, again, in the very breath will claim that Harry Potter could kick Edward into oblivion. Be sure to read all of the rebuttal here

I think it to be absurd to rip apart fans and the author of Twilight simply because one does not like the content. I do not care for Harry Potter, but that does not mean that I need to claim that the author can not write well and the fans are all going to hell. It just means that I do not like the story and do not want to be a fan.

It really all boils down to personal taste. Some will see the dazzling plot and originality of Twilight. Others will not. I personally found it to be a breath of fresh air from the usual vampire movies. There are only so many times that one can watch the same old stereotypical vampire woo women, sleep in his coffin, and gorily go on eating frenzies. For the close minded vampire fan Twilight will be an atrocity to all things vampire. But, for those that appreciate adding new dimensions to old ideas, Twilight will be seen as a sensational piece of work.
