Are there Really Vampires in Volterra in Tuscany?

Vampire of the Twilight books supposedly had Etruscan beginnings, something which they have got in common with the town of Volterra in Tuscany. Volterra has almost no crime rates and as outlined by the books, this is because of the anonymous but still highly felt presence of the Volturri.
Because of the highly imaginative author, the fans have difficulty separating fact from fiction when they see that there’s an actual town and they could visit it in exactly the same place which was written about.There is definitely an August festival which people can join in and this is the Augustan festival, however, this is not the exact same festival which the characters found themselves caught in. However, this isn’t the exact festival as in the books, as to the clock tower scene, there’s also none to be found in this town, there are no vampires; however the remainder are real and can be visited. The Leaning Tower of Pisa is found in the same area as Volterra in Tuscany, the province of Pisa. All tourists get to take advantage of the sights and sounds of ancient streets, spas and monuments, get to sleep in modern hotels built inside ancient buildings and take advantage of the food and culture that the Romans established a very long time ago. It doesn’t have to be the thought of blood and mystery as offered by vampiric tales to make Volterra a ‘must see’ place, it is due to what the town has to provide that makes it stand out among the choices for places to visit.
In the last three years, since the favored movies of the Twilight Saga came out, more and more people have visited this ancient Tuscany vacation town and they saw for themselves the magic of ancients. They have monuments and buildings in such a town that may be dated for a thousand years and they’re still in great condition. What is more, the food that are offered show the true side of Etruscan cuisine which only the Italians can perform justice.

There’s a saying that good is sometimes only found when you open your mind. It’s true; how many times have we been talked into trying a new restaurant that would not have been our first or second choice – or for that matter, might never had tried at all had it not been for a friend talking us into it? The same holds true for many of today’s contemporary films, too. Many parents had to make the call this summer whether or not to allow their kids to see Twilight, “the-red-hot-if-you-haven’t-seen-it-you’ve-been-on-another-planet” movie. Judging by the millions of dollars in revenue the film collected, it’s a fair assumption that most parents allowed their young ones to see it.
For many parents, though, it wouldn’t have been their first choice or the way to spend two hours in a movie theatre; however, many saw it with their kids just to be sure no lines were crossed and if they were, Mom or Dad could quickly usher their little ones out of the theatre. Turns out, though, amidst all the fantasy, vampires and even violence, this movie actually has a powerful message – and it’s one The Quiet Witness hopes will be what every teen, pre teen or young adult walked away with. That message is found in the scene when the film’s handsome leading man and likeable vampire refuses the sexual advances of his beautiful human girlfriend and instead insists they wait. Who knew, right? Quite the unexpected, but refreshing stance, no doubt. When Edward formally proposes to Bella, the two of them have what many young couples don’t have today: a pledge that’s still in place and honors the imminent wedding ceremony.
The ring is just lovely as it’s describe in great detail in the book and seen in the film; it was soon in big demand off the silver screen. It’s as elegant and traditional as the names Stephanie Meyer carefully chose for her characters. With a feminine oval shape and thirteen stones, it rests beautifully on the band. Timeless, regal and quietly stated – the designers hit a home run with this ring. There is one place you find an exact replica and the only place that offers a licensed and trademarked Bella’s Engagement Ring. As mentioned, the author of the books played a significant role in the design and she teamed with Infinite Jewelry Company to put the finishing touches on the ring. While there are several companies making “inspired by” versions, the only authorized trademarked replica of the actual ring as described in the Twilight book Eclipse, can be found at www.BellasEngagementRing.org.
One editorial written about this particular message, posted on a parenting website, and ironically written by a mother, reads, “I would have loved the freedom of making out with Edward Cullen. To know that I could lose control because he was going to stop me…that’s a gift young women don’t usually get”. While that may not be the way every parent sees it, you can’t miss the all too common frustration young women feel when it seems as though they spend half their time fending off advances from the one they love. Ah…but there’s more. It’s not until you take a step back and see things from a different perspective, though.
Our sweet and noble (who knew those two adjectives would ever be used to describe a vampire, fictional though he is?) leading man, Edward Cullen (played brilliantly by Robert Pattinson), delivers his message with confidence and authority. But out here in the real world, there’s a more powerful message to be found through Edward’s refusal to engage in pre-marital sex. Boys get pressured too. Too many times, the assumption is made that it’s the girls who must spend a good part of their teenage years fending off the advances of their boyfriends, who have no concept of testosterone or raging hormones. It was refreshing to see a young man, albeit the silver screen, who made the right call. Hopefully, this will start a chain reaction that includes other teen boys doing the right thing. Girls too, of course, but this one scene in the film really hits the mark in today’s society. W8ing for marriage, as it turns out, is important for vampires, too. On the website www.thequietwitness.com, they have several articles that discuss abstinence and purity issues that young men and women deal with.
If you’re still up in the air on whether or not to allow your pre-teen to see this film, please know this isn’t a recommendation either way; instead, it’s just a glimpse into the mindsets of the two leading characters. Only a parent can know if it’s appropriate for his or her child. In the end, Bella, played by Kristin Stewart saves herself for wedding day – and as far as we’re concerned, there’s no better “happily ever after”.

I have often wondered if Christian books sell as well as general market books. With the rise (and near fall) of mega-bookstores such as Barnes and Noble and Borders, we really have not seen any noticeable expansion of Christian bookstores. As I stroll the isles of the mega-bookstores, the “Christian” section (which is usually combined with all spirituality) has not grown either, in fact has decreased in size.

In the 1990s, the television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a cult hit. Based on an 1980s film with the same name, it attracted millions of viewers and ran for several years – despite its somewhat cliché subject. Though its following was less-than mainstream (and that of its spin-off Angel even less so), it earned a place in American television and pop culture history, receiving critical acclaim for its use of vampires and demons as metaphors for the challenges of growing up.
After the era of Buffy came and went, many assumed that the theme of vampires, at least for a while, would disappear, too. In recent months, however, these mythical creatures have come front and center. From Twilight to True Blood to The Vampire Diaries, vampire-themed television shows and films have become all the rage. More and more television watchers find themselves switching their high definition televisions to HBO to watch True Blood and flocking to theaters to see Twilight than ever before. And while before, vampire-themed entertainment was somewhat taboo, today, it is more popular than ever.
What does this recent obsession with these creatures that have existed in myths and fairy tales for hundreds of years mean? There is no clear answer.
A most obvious and perhaps correct answer is that this vampire rage is simply a fad. With the success of the Twilight book series and subsequent films, it is easy to argue that many in the entertainment business simply jumped on the bandwagon in hopes of making a quick buck. With the increasing popularity of satellite TV, television stations are competing harder than ever for viewers’ attention. Knowing that the attention and interest of audiences has been piqued by the vampires of Twilight, writers and producers hope that similarly themed shows have a similar effect. Much like the reality craze of the 1990s, the vampire craze may be nothing more than simple domino effect.
There are, however, other explanations. Though vampires have recently reemerged with a great amount of force in media and entertainment, they have been a fixture of storytelling for hundreds of years. Vampires appear in stories that date back hundreds of years ago. The myths of wooden stakes, crosses, garlic and sunlight are drawn from tales told long, long ago. Maybe, the inclusion of these blood-sucking creatures in our literature and cultures actually says something about us.
What, of course, the existence of vampires in our mythology could mean is tough to pinpoint. One possible explanation for the current craze, however, could be linked to the reality of the world around us. In a world that seems to be increasingly in crisis, mythological and incredible tales serve as an escape. Vampires and demons serve as manifestations of the evils we face in real life – war, crime, poverty, etc. We switch our HD TVs to these mythological shows in part to escape from often much darker realities.
When we tell stories about these creatures, demonizing them but also giving them depth and complexity, we also tell stories about ourselves. Vampires will not be disappearing from satellite TV anytime soon, but that may be a good thing after all.

Every year in entertainment, a new celebrity obsession or trend takes hold of the nation. Beginning in the early 2000s with boy bands and other pop stars, it has since evolved into quite a different trend. 2009 and 2010 have become, both in television and the movies, the years of the vampire. Flip on your high definition television or head to the silver screen and there is bound to be some vampire movie or TV show available that kids, teens and adults alike are all enchanted by.
How the vampire trend started up again is unknown. Beginning in the mid 90s, Sarah Michelle Gellar starred as Buffy in the hit WB series, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” which is now shown only in syndication. After the nail was put in that vampire TV show’s coffin, the vampire craze had seemed to be put to rest. However, it has yet again risen with a vengence as books, television, movies and even music are all focused on vampire protagonists. From the “Twilight” books and movies to HBO’s “True Blood” to basic cable’s CWTV station’s vampire TV show, gone are the days of Dracula being creepy, as they’ve almost become a celebrity sex symbol.
For those who have never seen any of the “Twilight” movies, they are now available on premium movie channels in high definition. Starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, this vampire saga is a love story between two teens, one of whom is a vampire. There are three books and movies based on the novels, the second of which is currently still in movie theaters. The third movie is still in production. The first one, however, sparked teen heartthrob frenzy throughout the nation and world as girls flocked to choose teams based on the characters. The movie has been shown on both cable and premium television channels.
Also on premium television stations available through satellite TV is the HBO hit series, “True Blood,” which also has a vampire plot. A much more adult take on vampires and blood sucking, the show is shown in its Sunday slot, replacing Sex and the City’s old space as the favorite HBO hit. Now finishing its third season, the show starring Anna Paquin is available on HBO’s On Demand special from the beginning of the series starting with Season One.
Pop culture’s obsession with vampires seems to be one that a stake won’t be put in any time soon and will stick around for some time to come. The TV shows are in constant production and the “Twilight” fanatics seem to grow with every movie Robert Pattinson stars in. The storylines are modern twists on classic vampire stories from years ago. For those interested in watching either the movies or television series, it is suggested to do so in HD because the plots often lend themselves to vibrant colors in the filming.

Hbo’S True Blood On Satellite Tv: Not Your Average Vampire Show

It seems that nowadays you cannot turn on your television or go to the movie theater without being inundated with another vampire show or movie. The early nineties saw the release of the cult hit Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which was followed by a spinoff show on the now defunct WB network. Once the popularity of that onetime hit wore off, it seemed that the vampire genre was no longer en vogue. It was only in recent years with the epic success of the Twilight series that there seemed to be a sudden revival of vampire related entertainment. The Twilight books have now produced two hugely successful films, with several more already in the making. These movies have made sudden stars out of the young cast, and have teenage girls all over the world eager to soak up the next in the installment.
Any subscriber to satellite tv can tell you that there is now an overwhelming amount of vampire related entertainment available. It is difficult to flip the channel without coming across yet another show trying to ride the wave of Twilight’s success. Most of these shows are poorly made and are simply trying to woo an audience that has time and again proven to be a cash cow. There is one exception in this genre, however, and it is fair to say that it surpasses even Twilight in the vampire genre. In fact, it surpasses most show on television in terms of entertainment, depth and cutting social commentary. HBO’s True Blood is essentially Twilight for a much, much more mature audience. Simply put, this is not your little sister’s vampire drama. While Twilight preaches an often obvious message of chastity, True Blood features scenes so graphic, they’re even shocking for HBO.
True Blood takes place in modern day Louisiana, set against the backdrop of a society in which vampires have recently come out of hiding and revealed themselves to the rest of the world. These, however, are not the vampire’s of Dracula lore. They are attractive and well dressed, living in mansions with HD flat screen televisions and driving expensive sports cars. They are also, however, often blood thirsty and aggressive. The show’s creators do not hold back when depicting often horrific scenes of vampires sucking humans dry and leaving them for dead. It is gory and edgy, and frankly addictive.
Of course, it would not be the show that it is if there wasn’t a deeper social commentary taking place. Much of the show depicts that fight between vampires and their sympathizers, and those that want them to be “back in the closet.” This underlying tension is a unique way of depicting the fight for gay rights in America, and many in the gay community have latched onto the show as a champion for equality. There is also a veiled discussion of race occurring as well, as the show takes place in the deep south, a place that is still haunted by hints of racism. In the end, the vampires represent just about any marginalized group looking for a legitimate place in society, and watching this commentary occur against such an unusual premise is what makes the show so groundbreaking.
If you haven’t had the chance to catch True Blood, start from the first season and you’re sure to get hooked. Just grab the dvds, flip on your high definition television and get ready to be blown away.
