Stephanie Meyers’s Twilight series has resuscitated popular interest in stories about forbidden love. Around the globe, Twilight readers have been buying out copies of books like Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, Wuthering Heights, and the Undead Hair Handbook.
However, Meyers’s series has been criticized for giving impressionable teens and tweens unrealistic expectations about romance, to say nothing of that whole vampire-baby-eating-its-way-through-your-uterus thing.
With Facebook groups such as “Why Isn’t Edward Cullen Real?” and “Twilight Has Ruined Any Chance I Have at a Realistic Relationship” becoming increasingly trendy, many scruffy, poorly-dressed teen males fear that their chances at romance are dwindling. (To even the playing field, every other media outlet has kept its inverse female-beauty / female-clothing ratio at an all-time high.)
This bombardment of unrealistic expectations is more than many of us can take. For those who prefer their forbidden love oldschool – agonizing, embarrassing, and possibly fatal – here are some classics that should come as a breath of fresh, depressing air.
Painful Scenario Number One: Mutual Destruction. Forbidden boy meets forbidden girl, forbidden boy and girl wed secretly, forbidden newlyweds accidentally die in an elaborate plan to skip town. This is the Romeo and Juliet strategy to love and it happens… well, not all the time, but it happens.
Reasons We Like It: You know how fairytale always end right after the beautiful damsel and the charming prince get married? That’s because nobody wants to hear about diaper changes or mortgage payments. A violent end cuts out all the boring stuff, plus it taps into the primitive, reptilian part of our brain that links sex with danger and death. Which, by the way, is not the same thing as un-death.
Painful Scenario Number Two: Silent Longing. Boy meets girl, boy decides girl is out of his league, boy swallows his feelings and vows to die alone. This is the Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock approach to love and, according to our secret diary research, it does in fact happen all the time.
Why We Like It: We’ve soooo been there. Avoiding confrontation is a great way to not only protect your dignity, but also keep the fantasy alive: we’re betting that special someone doesn’t ever burp, fart, or drunk-dial your mom. On top of it all, the scenario also appeals to our depressive fatalism. It’s not like this self-pity’s gonna wallow in itself.
Painful Scenario Number Three: Self-Destruction. Boy meets unattainable girl, boy embarks on a lucrative life of crime to impress girl with fancy mansion, boy gets totally shafted. Er, shot. Make that both. This is the Great Gatsby wooing strategy and, though appealing in its own right, we don’t recommend that you try it at home.
Why We Like It: Dying for a cause can be very noble – and getting filthy rich along the way has its perks as well. Then, when your love interest turns out to be selfish, entitled, and so not worth your time, you can enjoy the special satisfaction that comes with knowing you’re a superior being. This feeling will last several whole seconds before that bullet thing becomes an issue.

Now, I’m not one to hate on the twilight series. I have not read the books or have seen the movies. I am, however, one to hate on the fans. Why? Because more Twilight fans than many other book/movie series take it “too far”, as evidenced by this video I shot. This is my friend’s sister’s room. I close in on a contact case at one point in the video, and it’s unfortunate that my phone’s video is so poor, otherwise you could see what she wrote on the case. They were the contacts she was wearing when she got to meet Robert Pattinson when she camped out for two days in Vancouver at the filming of “Eclipse”. See what I mean? Too far.

I’m told that the “fight” between Liz and Felipe toward the end of the film was fabricated; that it didn’t exist in the book. Well, perhaps this is a good scene to have added, because I liked the argument Liz made when she declared, “I don’t have to love you to love myself.” Of course, she ends up loving him anyway without much further mention of loving herself.
Was this supposed to be her moment of epiphany? The moment when she transformed into a new Liz and found what she’d been searching for? I’m not sure. I felt like I was waiting for that “aha” moment of Liz’s throughout the whole film. But I never spotted it.
I guess I left the theater feeling rather disappointed. I had expected to be inspired. Had been sure that Liz’s journey of self-discovery would leave me with some sort of hopeful feeling, or at least some risidual passion for life and love and travel.
But I’m still not sure how I feel about “Eat Pray Love.” It’s a visually stimulating movie, but I felt rather unstimulated otherwise.There’s a reason more than 10 million Twilight series books are in print. Twilight, the first in the series, is the addictive story of two teenagers –- Bella, a regular girl, and Edward, a perfect gentleman and a vampire. This is the type of book you might read in just a few sittings, becoming engrossed in its fantastical world and oblivious to your physical surroundings. While not the next great thing in modern literature, it’s a fun book to get lost in and comes to an end much too quickly.
This film is a must for any Michelle Pfeiffer fan. I think it is one of her best performances. This is also based on a true life story. She is hired on as a school teacher for a class full of misfits and degenerates. and takes them from a class of students who don’t care to a students actually wanting to learn. She became one of them bending and twisting the rules and changes their lives. This story shows what one person whose underpaid can do.

Love and Death: Bitten – Twilight?
Love stories will always be a tasty part of whatever it is – a movie, a game, or a book. Twilight movies and books has just shook the world, mostly teenage world, with all their vampire thing. Having that as a background Love and Death: Bitten from PlayFirst fits in very well offering another variation of the vampire love story.
The game is all about a nice story wrapped up in really fairy-tail graphics.
You play as Victoria that happened to be fighting to defeat the vampire Damon. But things got really complicated after she fell for him. Well love played no better trick with Damon himself some time ago. He fell in love with a girl who gave him nothing but turning him into a vampire.
Ever since that terrific change in his life he hasn’t become a “vegetarian” like a vampire family in Twilight, but instead he was terrorizing the neighboring villages. Having fallen in love with him Victoria is now busy with helping him find the potion to set him free and turn him back to his humanity. That’s in her best interests after all.
After a quick run through town and the local wise woman’s house, you’ll spend much of the game in the witch Celeste’s castle, finding the keys Damon needs to unlock his salvation.
You will have to play in turns switching between Damon and Victoria. That is because each of them is better at certain activities unlike the other one. Like Damon doesn’t do well with sunshine, and Victoria isn’t that good at flying way up.
The hidden object parts happen only when a crow brings you a list of items to find. The list usually gives you twelve items to find. Some of those are multiple and some include some kind of action.
The game features really nice puzzles to solve. Some of them can be skipped though. Sometimes it is not that clear what you are to do next, but isn’t brain bending challenges like that is what the genre fans are looking for?
The game relies on collecting various bits and bobs – cogs for the clock, flowers for a potion, coins for a machine – a bit too much, but does an excellent job of mixing up tasks so that it never feels repetitious.
The graphics, sounds, music, game story and game play make up for a good game, beautiful and challenging.

Two very interesting imaginary characters- vampires and werewolves are more often than not placed against each other to spice up the drama of a horror flick. When played well along with a strong plot and dramatic sequence, it can be very gripping for the audience and be the key to success for the movie. The Twilight movies have tried capturing this same essence.
The Twilight series written by Stephenie Meyer is a collection of four books- Twilight, New moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, each one has been transformed into reels from pages, with the exception of Breaking Dawn, that too would be available for cinematic experience in some time.
Edward Cullen is the enticing vampire and Jacob Black, the werewolf as well as the soul mate of Bella, the human object of love of both the werewolf and the vampire. Stephenie Meyers has made another imaginary delineation between the Vampires that suck human blood and those that are vegetarian. This vegetarianism is a formulation of her mind. Vegetarian does not mean what is relevant in human context. Vampires, being vegetarian imply that they feed on animal blood instead of human blood. It was Edward’s father’s discovery.
The movie depicts both Edward and Jacob with immense physical strength. In one such instance of strength exhibition, Edward saves Bella from being hit by Tyler’s van. And Bella falls in love with the very charming, marble-skinned, 17 year old vampire instantly. And soon it is reciprocated by Edward too.
Werewolves are meant to keep the vampires in check. Jacob is the best friend of Bella. But with the Cullen family moving into Forks, the latent werewolf genes in the werewolves gets activated. Generally the werewolves have a lifespan and style like that of the humans- they live and die. But with vampires around them, their latent genes stir up and there is a werewolf population explosion.
The werewolves unlike the vampires have the choice of living like humans, growing old and then facing death eventually. But if they choose to become werewolves, then they gain their immortality and like vampires never age.One very effective difference between the vampires and the werewolves is that vampires are very cold and conversely the latter are burning hot.
Bella gets sort of sandwiched between an old werewolf best friend and mesmerizing vampire lover. These two imaginary species are believed not to be able to stand each other. Having visited the Cullen’s, when Bella goes to meet her friends and Jacob, they keep resenting the blood sucking, vampire-ish smell emitting from Bella. And the same happens when she has visited Jacob and then goes on to visit the vampires, she gets to hear the complain of smelling wolfy.
In the movie, the treacherous rivalry is worsened due to the liking developed for one human girl in her contemporaries belonging to each of the two species. Finally Bella long to be bitten y Edward so that she could join the league of immortal vampires since she is scared of ageing while Edward still remains impeccable at the constant age of 17. At the same time the rival werewolves have unwavering eye on the teenage girl and the story continues and unfolds gradually through the Twilight Series.

Modern romance stories cover a broad field that embraces the paranormal, historical, western, black, fantasy, as well as American romance fiction. Plot lines strive to be fresh and settings are often intricate and detailed. Above all, the characters experience a yearning that has them looking for love and intimacy.
Many readers enjoy romantic fantasies and some of the best writers of romantic fiction are active today. Of course, the success of the Twilight novels (and movies), the True Blood TV series and the Vampire Diaries have given a push to what is known as paranormal romance.
Although the love lives of ordinary people are still hugely popular, as can be seen with the work of Nicholas Spark (The Notebook, Dear John and Message in a Bottle), many romance novels today delve into a fantasy world that is a step (or more) beyond normal reality.
So, although readers might still hunger for the Rhett Butlers who carry Scarlett O’Hara up the staircase (Gone With The Wind), a lot of the heroes and heroines in today’s fiction also possess uncommon powers. Maybe they can change shape (shape shifters and werewolves), read minds (telepaths) foresee events (seers), speak to the dead (necromancers), display extraordinary strength and speed (vampires) or have other skills that equip them beyond the ordinary.
Of course, historical romance is still very much alive and kicking with many modern romance novels that make use of gothic, Victorian, Regency, confederate, western, etc. settings. Lords, princes, highlanders and pirates abound in the historical fiction of Stephanie Laurens (The Elusive Bride), Diana Gabaldon (An Echo in the Bone), Sabrina Jeffries (The Truth About Lord Stoneville) and many others who like their romance touched with the atmosphere and customs of a bygone era.
Western and country romance is also strong, with many adherents. Although True Blood (Charlaine Harris) is thought of as paranormal romance, it is also set in a small town in Louisiana. Those who like to read about heroic, passionate cowboys should consider Kerry A. Jones (Loved Enough), Leigh Greenwood (A Texan’s Honor) and Lorelei James (Branded As Trouble).
Story lines reflect attitudes women can identify with, regardless of the settings. For instance, Lora Leigh, in Nauti Deceptions, writes about an attractive female teacher who changes her identity after being framed and involved in a sex scandal in a small town in Kentucky.
In Dark Slayer, by Christine Feehan, Ivory is a rarity, a Carpathian female who has been protected throughout her life but circumstances compel her to free a ‘mage’ from a cave that serves as a prison and to flee with him.
The leading characters in modern romance stories have feelings and emotions that build to moments of intense passion and the plots may be clearly erotic. The heroines in these stories (despite their settings) are not the delicate, restrained women to be found in Jane Austen novels. They often face danger with courage and embrace romance with an eagerness that earlier generations could only dream of.
Those who are looking for the romantic and social subtleties of an earlier age might well be advised to seek out the writings of Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters. However, for those who prefer their romantic fantasies to be more akin to hot and sweaty, modern romance writers serve them well.
