With the winters fast approaching, a number of golf aficionados are looking out for rich golfing experience before the end of season. There are many who love to catch up a game golf on Thanksgiving. In fact, the golf courses too offer several special packages during the fall including cheap tee times, discount greens fees, free practice balls etc. Those who are yet to book their tee times on Thanksgiving, the following are some tips that will help them to book last minute tee times.
Private golf courses: Try searching private country clubs instead of booking public golf tee times. Golfers often believe that only the public golf courses offer cheap tee times. However, the private golf clubs too are offering discount green fees these days, especially during events like Labor Day, Halloween and Thanksgiving. Take advantage of such special packages; information about discounts are usually displayed at the golf club’s pro-shops and website. Visit the site on a regular basis and watch out for the discount tee times and green fees.
Special packages: Some private golf clubs are now allowing the non-members to play at their exclusive courses by just paying the green fees, i.e. the non-member can book the unused tee times without paying any additional membership fees. This is a great strategy adopted by many country clubs to help them to increase their revenues. Golfers with limited budged can take advantage of such offers as well. One can book Early Bird or Twilight Special tee times, which are generally considered as slow times during the fall. It is important consider that one need to adhere to certain tee times restrictions while opting for such offers.
Golf networking sites: They are becoming quite popular these days. Golf networking sites enable the serious golfers to play at some of the finest golf courses of the country. One needs to become a member to take advantage of such sites. Members can book online tee times, connect with other golfers and can get discount greens fees. In most cases, the paid members need to pay just the green fees for enjoying a round at an exclusive course. Again, there are some golf networking sites that act as more than a tee time aggravator and enable the members to request tee times to suit their schedule. These sites are extremely helpful for booking last minute tee times. Just become a member and enjoy all the facilities that they have to offer.
Connect with golf buddies: Golfers who are unable to find a suitable tee time can take help of the fellow golfers. Look around for friends who have already scheduled their game and see if they are allowed to bring guests. One can even share the green fees with such golf buddies. Finding a golf buddy is no more a problem these days; one can take advantage of the social networking sites to connect with fellow golfers. In addition, the golf networking sites allow the members to create a network of buddies and invite or post invitation for a round of golf. Members usually share the cost of the game. This also gives an opportunity to the non-country club members to play at some of exclusive, member’s only courses of the country.

Twitter.com – Follow Us! Will the Firelight books be the next big thing ala Twilight and Harry Potter. We’ll break it all down up next. Welcome back to ClevverTV. I’m your host Joslyn Davis and today we’re dishing on the new book series that has the literary and the entertainment worlds buzzing. It’s called Firelight and the first book in what is going to be a series just hit shelves on September 7th. So here’s the basic run-down. The book follows Jacinda, who is a member of the drake, who are descendants of dragons who can shift back and forth between human and dragon forms. After Jacinda’s rebellious antics get out of control, her family is forced to move to the human world. Jacinda struggles to find her place and her draki spirit begins to fade. After she meets Will though, her spirit is awakened. Jacinda can’t stop herself from wanting to get to know him, despite the fact that — and guys this is the exciting part — despite the fact that Will’s family hunts the drake. The series sounds like a bit of that supernatural flair that we love, and what’s made both Harry Potter and The Twilight Sage hugely successful. Plus, it looks to have a great romance storyline, as well. But this time the tables are turned, as the supernatural force is the girl in the story. Now we have to ask what you guys think…have you picked up this book? And if so do you think this could make a great movie franchise? Let us know in the comments section. Also, the character on the book cover is a …

NEW BOOK TELLS THE TALES OF MIGRANT WORKERS IN DUBAI
Welcome to Dubai, the city of a million lights, the Shangri-La of the Middle East, a paradise in the desert that attracts bounty hunters and fortune seekers alike from all corners of the globe.
This City of Gold is a melting pot of people from various parts of the world – the mystic east and the modern west. The love for the glittering lights and the temptation to go on a spending spree in the most modern shopping malls is the dream of everyone who visits this country either on a holiday or to work. More than 80 percent of the population of Dubai is made up of foreigners
Everyone who comes to Dubai has a dream – to become rich and return home with a tax-free income, a healthy bank balance and lead a good life in retirement in the twilight years.
The story of these dreams is told in a new novel Dubai Dreams: The Rough Road to Riches written by the veteran British author and journalist Shamlal Puri. The 350 page novel, published jointly by Crownbird Publishers Inc of London (www.crownbirdpublishers.co.uk) and the New Delhi-based Har-Anand Publications, a reputed Indian publishing house, (www.haranandpublications.com) is being released at the end of January 2010. The book ISBN 9780 9552627-2-2 (hard cover US.99 plus postage and packing) and 9780 9552627-3-9 (paperback US.99 plus postage and packing) is available from both the publishers, www.amazon.com and all good book sellers.
In this novel, the story is told of six Indian migrant workers who come together in search of riches. Four taxi drivers and a junior manager from South India and a construction worker from the Punjab live under the same roof in bed-sit lodgings. Overworked and underpaid, lonely without their families, they soon realize that their Dubai dreams are not likely to be fulfilled. Living expenses are high, and they have loans to repay and families to support.
The book traces the lives of these poor migrants in search of their pot of gold. Exploited at every turn, the author highlights their plight and how easy it is even for simple, honest men to turn to crime in desperation.
The book lifts the lid off the lives of blue-collar workers in the Middle East. It captures the humor and pathos of the sweltering classes in thankless, low-paid jobs. Here is a rare insight into the lives of taxi drivers who keep the transport system of Dubai well-oiled. As the traffic rolls on, the world fails to take note of their pain and suffering…
The six guest workers live under the same roof in bed-sit lodgings owned by Das, a rich and a shady businessman. At first they are honest and hard working migrants but later they realize their incomes do not match their expenditure.
Desperate, they get sucked into crime. Persuaded by Das, they carry out Dubai’s first ram-raid on a jewellery shop, leaving the cops baffled. After the raid one of them escapes to India – a fugitive from justice. Another is questioned about money laundering and when the police is about to discover the men behind the jewellery shop raid, he takes his own life in jail rather than spill the beans on his accomplices.
Hit by the credit crunch, construction worker Hazara Singh is exploited by his employers and loses his job. His Dubai dream is shattered and he returns to the Punjab. Taxi driver Binu makes global news when he returns a suitcase full of dollars and gold left behind a passenger in his taxi. Shashidharan Pillai, a millionaire’s son and a spoilt brat, runs away from his father and takes a job in Dubai as a junior manager. He rushes home to perform the last rites for his father. Another taxi driver, Ahmed, is duped by Maya, a gold digger from Mumbai, when his wife walks out on him. Maya suspects that Ahmed is rich and runs huge debts for him and then abandons him with tragic consequences.
Here is the heart wrenching saga of taxi drivers and workers who sweat it out to keep it going.
The drivers change, but the taxis keep on rolling in Dubai. Behind each change of driver lies a forgotten tale of hardship and sacrifice as human emotions and values take a back seat. The driver asks,”Where do you want to go, Sir?” But he is not going anywhere in life.
This novel is definitely worth a read by anyone interested in life in Dubai. It tells the story of the common man in search of his pot of gold. It contains a mine of information not ordinarily found anywhere else. The book has its funny moments and the author has taken the trouble to narrate the stories told to him by taxi drivers.
Piecing together the lives of taxi drivers is a tedious task but Shamlal Puri has completed this on with a degree of success.
He says in the introduction of the book: “It was always on my mind when I lived and worked in Dubai to write about the lives of taxi drivers. Love them or loathe them, they are always in your way on the streets and in the back lanes. You look to the left, you look to the right, taxis are never out of your sight in this busy metropolis. In some parts of Dubai, you scratch your head and a taxi will come screeching to a halt in anticipation of business.”
But, he asks, has anyone ever thought of the lives of the men who are behind the wheel of these taxis? These guest workers from many parts of the developing world, particularly the Indian sub-continent, have left behind abject poverty and are trying to earn a crust for themselves and build the lives of their family back home.
Mr Puri recalls what got him interested in writing about the taxi drivers of Dubai. “When I first set my foot in Dubai in the 1990s on a journalistic assignment, I took a ride from the airport to the hotel in a taxi driven Ashraf, a Pakistani taxi driver. We struck up an instant friendship. He talked as if we were long lost brothers or had known each other from a previous birth. The mine of information he gave me during that ride stayed in my mind for years that followed. His generosity caught me by surprise – he did not want to take any fare from me. I persisted and paid him – after all, this was his bread and butter. Ashraf’s stories got me thinking about writing this book. I became a constant visitor to the Middle East and enjoyed my trips in the taxis I hired.”
During Shamlal’s several years of continuous stay in Dubai, he came across many friendly taxi drivers of all nationalities who told him stories that brought plenty of mirth. “I have recounted a majority of these stories in this book while at the same time respecting their privacy and preserving their anonymity. They also told me sad stories of their lives. They are the unsung heroes of this book.”
“We have to concede taxi drivers are an important part of the Dubai society, even though they may be the sweating class struggling to survive.”
He says: “I am grateful to the taxi drivers who crossed my path and gave me the benefit of their deep knowledge about the world around them. Once while waiting in the searing heat in Jebel Ali, one South Indian cabbie actually made a detour to pick me up and said he had sympathised with my plight under the sun. They are human beings who have feelings for the people they transport. They make Dubai tick along…”
Shamlal Puri has led an interesting career. He is an international journalist, editor and author. He has worked with the media as a professional journalist and photographer in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East in a career spanning over 30 years. While in Dubai, he observed blue-collars workers at close quarters, and Dubai Dreams is the outcome. Shamlal has published several books including That’s Life: Michael Matatu at Large and Axis of Evil: Blood Money.
During his long career in the media Shamlal Puri founded Newslink Africa, a pioneering news agency for this continent. His work has been published in more than 250 magazines, newspapers, journals around the world. He started his career on ‘Northern News’ in India where he rose to be its assistant editor. He also worked on ‘Daily News’ in Tanzania and was a senior journalist with ‘The Kenya Times’ in Nairobi and Drum magazine. He has written for ‘The Illustrated Weekly of India’, ‘Femina’, Youth Times, ‘Caravan’ and ‘Women’s Era’ magazines, among others, in India.
In the United Kingdom, Shamlal worked with ‘India Weekly’ and Harrow and Wembley Observer newspapers in London. He was also a Senior Editor of ‘World Times’ magazine in London’s Fleet Street. He has broadcast on BBC World Service, BBC TV, Channel Four in Britain and networks in Australia and Africa.
As a professional news photographer, he has compiled a picture library of 250,000 images. His photographs are widely published globally, including in the British national press. He has visited most of the countries in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, the Far East and the Americas and now lives in Britain, devoting his time to writing.

One of my hobbies is reading. I often joke with people that I’d be willing to read anything (well, almost anything) if supplied with adequate time and a few fresh pots of coffee. I’ve recently been reading a book which was actually written about other books. It’s a 2008 work by the author Benjamin Wiker entitled “10 Books that Screwed Up the World (And 5 Others that Didn’t Help) c. 2008 Regnery Pub.” Although Wiker’s insights will likely be deemed offensive to some who herald from different ideological backgrounds, I recommend his “10 Books” synopsis/analysis for anyone attempting to get a grip on 21st century thinking. Although I had previously read a number of the 15 books on his list, I’ve admittedly not read all of them – nor had I previously considered the myriad of implications these books have had on our collective, cultural worldviews. Although Wiker seems to have a Catholic background, I hope people will give his assessments of the cumulative impact of these books a chance without writing him off as being “too biased toward religion.” My humble attempt to “summarize” Wiker’s “summary” goes like this:
Around the time of the 18th century, it was both easy and convenient to blame most of the ills of society on the likes of Christianity (or maybe better stated – Judeo-Christian worldview concepts). Thus, going back to at least the period of the Renaissance and then onward, various serious attempts have been made to redefine truth along the lines of more “enlightened” thinking. Most of these attempts have almost redundantly returned to addressing the same themes – which pertain to revisionist approaches to concepts of “humanity,” “sin,” “God,” and the ability to create a utopian “paradise.” Since thinking has become so progressively “enlightened” from all the “constraints” of a Biblical worldview, one would expect the last century to have been more tranquil and utopian-esque than all previous ones. Such, however, has not been the case. Along with the continued attempts to strip away a Judeo-Christian view of humans, sin, and God, various attempts have been made to replace the existing infrastructure of thought with new, more “promising” ideas. One need only study the results of the likes of Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini etc. to realize very quickly that the wake has been disastrous (for insight into a factually and philosophically consistent comparison between violence/oppression engendered at the hands of professing Christians as compared to the hands of antitheists, consider reading Ravi Zacharias’ book “Can Man Live Without God” c.1994 Word Publishing as well two books by Rodney Stark “For the Glory of God” c. 2003 Princeton University Press and “The Victory of Reason” c. 2006; and also Oxford scholar Alistair McGrath’s books “The Twilight of Atheism” c.2004 Doubleday Press and “The Dawkins Delusion” c. 2007 IVP Press; For more on Hitler’s antichristian perspectives, consider reading “Hitler’s Table Talk” Enigma books 3rd ed. Co. 2000 and doing a comprehensive study of the “Nuremburg Trials”). As “enlightened” thinking concluded that there is “no God” and no “good” or “evil,” then humans, as Nietzsche rightly predicted, transferred their belief systems into formations of newfound “brotherhoods.” The “creeds” of the “enlightened” brotherhoods might reconstruct humans as merely survivalists (Darwin), or state more boldly that they are driven by a “will to power” (Nietzsche), but along with any notions about God or innate ideas about morality out of the way, all human desires must go unchecked as “rights” since they’re also beneficial to the wellbeing of homosaphiens living out life on planet earth (Mill / Kinsey). Hence, it’s “anything goes” in the name of the “betterment” of humanity for survival, power, pleasure – etc. A simplified version of “connecting dots” reveals, in the very least, that various thinkers have drawn from the same think-tank cesspools which have permeated much of our modern cultural perspectives. What Darwin explains in 1871’s “The Descent of Man ” (that there are higher and lower races of humans), Nietzsche advances in 1886’s “Beyond Good and Evil” (for a “cultivation of a new caste that will rule Europe”), and ultimately Hitler attempts to carry out with 1925’s Mein Kampf and the subsequent holocaust (anyone quick to write off Wiker’s connection between these as being fallacious might first read Richard Weikart’s book “From Darwin to Hitler: Evolutionary Ethics, Eugenics, and Racism in Germany” c.2004 Palgrave Macmillan Press before making his/her mind). Also, Margaret Sanger (the founder of Planned Parenthood – our nation’s leading abortion provider) wrote in 1922’s “The Pivot of Civilization” about her eugenic motives for her ultimate goal of eliminating the “dead weight of human waste.” In the midst of her rejection of Judeo-Christian beliefs and values, Sanger actually held to her own brand of “spirituality” regarding her reasons for wanting to remove moral (sexual) “taboos” – citing that this will make possible “self-direction and salvation” for the interests of “society at large.” Furthermore, passionate Darwinist/atheist Alfred Kinsey told us in 1948’s “Sexual Behavior in the Human Male” that since we’re all mere animals, then humans should feel free to act like any other animals in satisfying personal sexual urges. Kinsey’s “insight” was derived from his personal, experiential documentation of six types of sexual activity – which included not only homosexual practice, but also pedophilia, and even bestiality. Kinsey’s conclusion about all of these practices was that they only “seemed” to fit into categories of right, wrong, licit, and illicit – etc – whereas in reality they should be held by society to be perfectly natural. Kinsey held that even terms such as “molestation” are only viewed in a negative light because of our preconditioned religious hang-ups – perpetuated by uptight people trying to hold down others from being able to “express themselves.”
Such are just a few examples of connected dot ideas presented in “10 Books That Screwed Up the World.” I’m fairly certain that the condition of our current cultural landscape would make several of the above authors proud; although they’d also likely state that we haven’t yet gone far enough. With the most recent presidential candidates being asked on national television if they believe “evil exists,” it’s my hope that people on all sides of the cultural spectrum will progressively reevaluate the need for such a question to even be asked, and will ultimately come to terms with the truth that there is a God, that “evil” exists, and that humans are more than mere animals or mechanisms. Certainly the subjects referenced above are far from being the only “moral” issues important to society at large. For the mainstream professing Christian, self-examination remains extremely important (Matthew 7:1-5; I Cor. 11:31-32). At the same time, my prayer for society as a whole is; That instead of attempting to replace God and morality, that Christian scriptures will be heeded which present the charges to repent of sin, to experience reconciliation with God by trusting in His appointed messiah, Jesus Christ, who loved us enough – in spite of our sinful condition – to die for us (Romans 5:8), and then ultimately revealed His identity through His resurrection from the dead (Acts 17:30-31).

Household Twilight Zone

You’ve heard of trying to find a needle in a haystack? Housekeepers all over the planet encounter similar challenges and are expected to deftly overcome them so that the kids can catch the bus, breadwinners can get to work and the household remains in ship-shape.
Since unlocking the mysteries of the household usually falls on the female of the species, they know these daily encounters can land them … in the Household Twilight Zone.
It starts in the bathroom. Who could have imagined that the endless supply of hair cropping up on the floor could be shed from the same heads that wake up in tangled and hard to comb and style messes? This proliferation of castaway strands boggles the mind and frustrates men with male pattern baldness, yet no one helps with hair removal.
Enter the kitchen, where the remains of snacks and drinks on the floor causes such a stickiness that it can pull a shoe two inches off the ground but, incredibly, no one cares. This slapping sound has conditioned the dog to salivate and come running, a Pavlovian spot remover.
Off in the distance, the children scream. The item they need for school cannot be located. Only the stairway, cluttered with the week’s worth of items that never found their way to their rightful place, holds any hope. Either that or it’s where they had it last.
Against our better judgment, we follow a trail of dropped items directly to a strange and unexplainable sight. What appears to be an ordinary bed is piled so high with clothing, there is no need for a blanket. And against the wall, only the clutter of personal care items on top of the dresser holds any hnit of its intended purpose in the room.
With no connection whatsoever to this scene is the laundry room with its expansive collection of catchall items. As the occupants come and go, here is where they deposit books, coats, shoes, mail, newspapers, groceries, and the item they’ll need for school tomorrow morning. The discerning eye finds, under a deep pile of sundries, actual clothing items waiting for a spin. It’s no mystery who will be entering the cleaning zone.
The time – almost any day, after school. The place – the family room. Just who are these young people? Before them lies an expanse of floor, a minefield of broken and cracked DVD cases. Strangely enough, these people can’t connect the dots as to why they are broken even though they can run a Pacman through a rows of dots in record time on what they refer to as a “vintage” system that they keep in a cobwebbed box in the basement that appears immediately after the room’s been vacuumed.
And in the basement, a testimony to the lost. Empty cages now filled with painting supplies and Easter baskets offer the only clues to the existence of the pets the kids promised to care for. (They did ask to consult with Sylvia Brown about the gerbil they never found. Not so for the gecko who was proof positive that living things need food and water.)
As the day draws to a close, consider this. Is it any wonder that parents get tired? But unlike the gerbil or the gecko, they face the future with confidence, having escaped the darker places and ready to encounter another day … in the household Twilight Zone.

Very soon we might find Adam Lambert in the twilight zone

]]>
Adam Lambert, Robert Pattinson, and Kristen Stewart, three incorrigibly sexy artists might come together in the common ground of Twilight. Very soon we might find Adam Lambert in the twilight zone. Of course, the look of a dark, mystical, vampire is well pretend by Adam Lambert, but has he the right musical jig for the Twilight series. Adam Lambert has said that he wants his upcoming tour to be “really theatrical” and “sparkly”. The ‘Whataya Want From Me’ star recently announced the first few dates on his ‘Glam Nation Tour’, which kicks off in the US later this year.Bieber Fever is spreading faster than the plague and now Adam Lambert has revealed he is a fan of the pint-sized teeny bopper. Lambert also revealed that he thinks American Idol can survive without judge Simon Cowell, who revealed this week that he quit the show because he was bored.
A handful of new performers at this year’s Much Music Video Awards were announced Wednesday, and topping the guest list are sparkletwins KeSha and Adam Lambert. The rocking former “American Idol” runner-up Adam Lambert will head out on the road for his first headlining tour this summer, beginning in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on June 4. The Glam Nation tour will also feature fellow former “American Idol” contestant Alison Iraheta and breakout guitarist Orianthi. The trio are currently booked for 19 dates across the country, and Lambert has promised the concerts will be “very theatrical.” The Adam will perform at Comcast Center, Mansfield, and Mass on 22 July and on June 4rth he will perform at the F.M Kirby Center for the performing arts, Wilkes-Barre, Penn. Adam Lambert has promised fans a theatrical theme for his upcoming Glam Nation Tour. After his laser-enhanced performance on last weeks American Idol, Lambert has insisted that he aims to make his tour different and of course, as glam as possible.
Lambert has also announced that his next single release in the US will be If I Had You, which the Idol star revealed is one of his personal favorites. He claimed: “It’s a great song really fun, upbeat, joyful, and the message in the song is really exciting, because basically what it’s saying is no matter what color your skin is, no matter what religion you are, no matter what your sexuality is, no matter what your age is, we can all party together. We can all find common love. Adam Lambert has a favorite in mind when it comes to predicting who escapes his own fate. That would be the WINNER of American Idol 2010. Wait… didn’t Adam win Idol? Oh that’s right… he came in second! You’d bever know it.Over the weekend Adam played a preview gig of his Glam Nation tour at the Wango Tango palooza in LA and he was corralled by every media outlet within arm’s reach. That’s because Adam is white hot right now. Get your Adam Lambert Tickets
