Despite the critical success of the Green Arrow team-ups, the period was not a strong one in Hal Jordan’s history. His longtime girlfriend broke up with him, and that sent Hal traveling around the country doing odd jobs here and there. Also during this period, two new back-up Lanterns were introduced.
Guy Gardner premiered in the 1960s and was shown to be Abin Sur’s second choice after Hal for the role of Green Lantern. Stubborn and hot-headed, Guy has had many altercations with his fellow heroes. He’s also gone through a number of changes, among them wielding a yellow power ring and calling himself Warrior. Eventually, Guy Gardner would grow up, and be placed in charge of training the rest of the Green Lantern Corps.
John Stewart premiered in the 1970s and has been the “regular” Green Lantern during times in which Hal Jordan and Kyle Rayner resigned their posts or were off world. John is famously the most stable of the Earth bound Green Lanterns, but his tenure has not been without grief. Most notably, he was unable to prevent the destruction of the planet Xanshi, and that failure would plague him for years.
In the 1990s, more change came to the Green Lantern comic. Following the destruction of Coast City by the Cyborg Superman, Hal went insane (this was later blamed on being infected with the parasite Parallax) and tried to destroy and remake the universe. Though ultimately unsuccessful, Hal caused plenty of other damage during his insane and evil days. He killed Sinestro, destroyed the Green Lantern Corps, and annihilated all but one of the Guardians. Though most of this damage was later retconned away, many longtime fans were truly disturbed and upset by the evil turn of their hero.
When Earth’s sun was threatened by a sun-eater, Hal redeemed his evil ways by nobly sacrificing himself to save Earth. Still not earning his rest, Jordan came back as the Spectre, the Spirit of God’s Vengeance for several years. This would change in the storyline Green Lantern: Rebirth, during which Hal Jordan came back to life and was freed from the influence of Parallax.
In the aftermath of Hal Jordan’s turn to the dark side, the one remaining member of the Guardians of the Universe, Ganthet, sought out a new Green Lantern. He chose Kyle Rayner, a young freelance artist from New York. Kyle’s painful introduction to the world of superheroing began shortly thereafter, when the villain Major Force killed his girlfriend, Alexandra DeWitt. A large bulk of Kyle’s storylines have dealt with his guilt over not being able to save her, and that guilt grew as other loved ones came into harm’s way and Kyle was unable to prevent their harm.
On a brighter note, Kyle has been a member of both the Titans and the Justice League of America. One of his closest friends was Connor Hawke, the second Green Arrow.
For a time, Kyle absorbed more energy than he could handle and he became the godlike entity known as Ion. Ultimately, after a heart to heart with Superman, Kyle decided to relinquish those powers. The excess energy Kyle relinquished was used to restart the central power battery on Oa and to help give life again to the Guardians of the Universe. This would be an important step in rebuilding the Green Lantern Corps to their former glory, one of the major current themes in the Green Lantern comics.
The powers and abilities of the Green Lanterns have depended on who is wielding the ring, but the power ring can be used to construct any object in the wielder’s imagination. In addition, it has given wearers the power of flight, telepathic abilities, radiation generation, invisibility, and force field generation.
Hal Jordan, Alan Scott, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, and Kyle Rayner are all currently alive and well in the DC comic book universe. Alan Scott enjoys his post as one of the elder members of the Justice Society of America while Hal and John continue to take turns patrolling Earth in service to the Guardians. Kyle and Guy are currently primarily off Earth, helping to rebuild the Green Lantern Corps in their own way.

If Ted Williams Can Do This, So Can I
I love that people are inspired by this story but remember Ted went to school for broadcasting…he did MAKE an investment in his career…he also worked for radio. It’s a dangerous thought process to think that you will be the next one discovered. It just doesn’t work that way. Ted’s story is unique and it doesn’t happen very often. Some More Ideas About How To Write Fiction

The most important thing about writing is structure. You cannot just rush into a piece of writing without some feeling for the form of what you are going to write. Of course it’s a great idea to zoom off a few inspired pages, but then you do have to stop and think. Where’s the start, what’s the story, what’s going to be the gripping climax? Tchaikovsky used to paste his music around the walls of his room to see the structure. A piece of music is like a book: you only experience one part of it at once. So every bit must be carefully scrutinized, honed, perfected to fit with every other piece. The story line can let you up and down: but keep the tension – or the reader will start to snore. Think how in Macbeth the tension is maintained.
Suggestion 1. You need to introduce your characters, or mice, or subatomic particles, or whatever it is that you are writing about. A single line can sometimes do it very nicely. I want to quote from a very short story (a “nanostory”) written by a school pupil whom I know. The story started: “There was an old lady at an old-age home.” This immediately conjures up a picture, a different picture for everybody no doubt, but nevertheless, you are there with the old lady.
Suggestion 2. The story itself, after the start, must have, a middle and an end. From the same story: “Her passion was to look out of the window watching the sun go up and down over the North Sea. She had been watching for many years now, but she never got tired of it.” The middle: “It was the highlight of the day and the thing which kept her alive. But one day a new modern building came right in front of her window.” The end: “The old lady died a week later.” Perfect! A couple more examples: the first: “On a sleepy, sunny afternoon I was sitting on the banks of a canal, when a barge came chugging gently towards me. On the deck sat an old man smoking a pipe. As the barge approached, it began slowly to sink and as it passed by, the water was already lapping about the old man’s legs. The canal turned a corner and the last I saw was the bowl of the old man’s pipe sticking out of the water like a periscope.”
The second: “Driving along a country road in late twilight I saw a mole on the tarmac. The poor creature was stunned and it needed somewhere warm and cozy, so I placed it in my left shoe. This tumbled over at a corner and the mole, now wide awake, scuttled out and hid under the clutch pedal. The traffic lights turned to red in front of me and I slowed down changing into third. The next car that I buy will be an automatic, so that this can never happen again.” All are nicely structured and they work, even if they are very, very short!
The next thing is style. Style’s thing of most importance is intelligibly to clearly express what it, or he, or she, or maybe a cat or dog, would think if they had had the brains to talk or they wanted, in a manner of speaking, to express it or whatever it was.
Suggestion 1: write so that people can understand what you want to say.
Suggestion 2: grab the reader’s imagination from the first line of the start of the work. For example: “The dog bit him on the ankle so hard that he screamed in agony…” or “He was the most gorgeous man she had ever met, but, and it was a big but, he had a big butt…etc.” For comparison you might try to write the most boring first line possible: “There had been a small earthquake in the north of Chile. No buildings had fallen and nobody was hurt…”
Suggestion 3: Try and keep it simple. This is what the reader has come to expect in the 21st century. Do not indulge yourself in great flights of florid language stretching like geese across a lurid sunset, mixing images like geese and florid – when did you last see a flowery goose? Try to avoid doing this and other horrid things with the English language. Avoid ‘purple passages’: one example from that wonderful novel ‘She’ by Rider Haggard is enough: “quivering footsteps of the dawn came rushing across the new-born blue and shook the high stars from their places… From the east to the west sped the angels of the Dawn, from sea to sea, from mountain top to mountain top scattering light with both their hands. On they sped out of the darkness, perfect, glorious, like spirits of the just breaking from the tomb…It was a wonderfully beautiful sight, and yet sad, perhaps from the very excess of its beauty…. etc. etc.” In other words, the sun rose.

My first experience with sports handicapping was in 1976, when Joe Namath was nearing the twilight of his career. There was a game that year between Namath’s Jets and the Miami dolphins. That game made my life different. I teach my clients to have the self-control to allow me to identify games where there’s at least a six point difference between what the line is and what the line should be. We intend to then schedule a time to talk and see if we feel that there is a mutual fit…and if there is…I can tell you this…you will never gamble again…you will invest into profitable eventualities where the issue is not if you’ll win…but rather how much you will profit!
Plenty of pople new to Sports Betting ask me to elucidate to them the basics of handicapping. One of the most typical questions I get is about’Sportsbooks’ so I have decided to write a multi-part serries about sports betting, sports investing, and the way to make sports picks like a handicapper.
Sportsbooks operate by taking wagers. The types of wagers suggested by the sportsbooks are numerous , and the percentages alter too.
But essentially any wager deemed a favorite, will have a number like – 110, -165, -300, and so on. The negative means it’s the favourite, and the number behind it implies that’s how much you have got to bet to win 0. Now, laying 100$ on the Rockies, pays back 0. This massive payout will sway some bettors to take a 0 risk on the Rockies due to the large payout. The -300 Line on the Yankees will back off a few bettors who will not wish to risk the farm to win a pea ( 0 risked pays back 0 ). And the books will continue to adjust the line till gametime, making subtle moves to even demand between both outcomes.
-300 bettors who lay cash on the Yankees win the 0 risked by Rockies bettors. The sportsbook breaks even.
Now if the Rockies win, they get back their 0 hazarded, plus 0 because the line was ( +250 ). Juice is the fee for gambling. Sometimes the books break even. Infrequently they make the juice. 0 risk ed on Yankees plus 0 risked on Colorado = 0 in wagers, and profit.
In this situation , given both ways the game can end, the books are averaging profit per game for every 0 risked which is 1/16th or about 6% profit per game, based totally on whatever volume of business they do. wagers, again and again again, you can see how taking wagers pays them big money IF they can split the demand properly between 2 groups.
Some sports have spreads like NBA, and NFL, where betting on the Indianapolis Colts vs the Houston Texans means there will be a line.
For instance, Indianapolis as the favorite, again has a negative number – 14.5 lets say. They now have to win by over fourteen points toward cover the spread and pay their bettors. Houston Texans backers get 14.5 points positive, which implies they can lose by fourteen and still get paid.
Indianapolis Colts – 14.5 pays ( -110 )
Each bettor bets 110 to win 100, and if the wagers are even on both sides, the 110 lost by the losing team’s backers pays the 100 profit to the winning teams backers. That switches to between four and 5 percent profit guaranteed[**].
The sportsbooks goal is to balance their sides, make their juice, and keep customers content and constant, by paying ontime, and providing excellent purchaser service. Then the juice rolls in day after day. You can see that four to eight % profits are small, but considering the enormous number of business volume taken, the profits are incredible. A three hour sporting event can put thousands if not hundreds of thousands of dollars in the sportsbook’s bank accounts. It can put Millions of bucks in all the different sportsbooks accounts across the industry, when you factor in the variety of sportsbooks where people are betting. Not bad for a three hour sports occassion, and yet it goes on day after day after day.

It’s just a one time fee of .95 and you’ll get access to everything in the library at MyPadMedia (and this is a very exhaustive library that I’ve seen grow over the past few weeks I’ve been a member).
This covers everything from newspapers, comic books, science fiction novels, non-fiction novels and the classics!
I have always felt that multimedia should be 100% transportable! And the great thing about MyPadMedia is that it delivers on that promise!
At first I thought it must be too good to be true. However, I was very wrong. Like I said earlier, there’s no need for torrents, fancy “jailbreaks” or anything like that with this service.
It’s just a great alternative to the iTune store in my opinion.
To give you an example – my daughter is a huge fan of the Twilight series of novels. Rather than spending the + for each of the novels I was able to just let her read them on my iPad!
My son is an avid comic book reader and the comic books I’ve found on MyPadMedia have kept him very happy. Honestly, the only downside to MyPadMedia is that my kids both want their own iPad.
I need a fast, reliable, low-cost way of getting quality digital content onto my iPad and I’m very happy with the service provided by MyPadMedia.

iPad Downloads Made Easy with MyPadMedia
I love my iPad. I use it every day for surfing, email and even some light text editing. But one of my annoyances with the iPad is how expensive and restrictive the iTunes store is. It seems that every time I want to get a book, comicbook, newspaper etc. I end up having to spend – for it. At least that was before I discovered MyPadMedia!
