Facing The Hells Angels In the Nostalgic 60’s

In January of 1969, I had graduated from college in Southern California. At the time I had a job at a Shell gas station on the graveyard shift as an attendant at one of these “Open 24 Hours” service stations. This was back in the days when nobody did self-service by filling up his own gas tank. No. You merely sat in your warm or air-conditioned car, did not move a single inch, and waited to be served like a king. When a car rolled up, I would charge out into the cold night and fill up the tank or whatever those morons wanted. It was amazing how many people only wanted to buy only a dollar’s worth of gas. Gas cost as little as 24.9 – 30.9¢ per gallon in those days. So .00 bought as much gas as about .00 does today. For that dollar bill, a person would get all his windows washed all the way around, the hood would be lifted so I could check his oil level and then daintily carry the dip stick around to his window with my hand under it so that not a drop would fall on his precious car to show him all was well or to get him to buy a can of oil for an inflated price. In addition, I inspected his fan belt to see if I could rip him off on one of those, checked his battery, and filled up his windshield washer fluid with water if it was low. Lastly, I checked the air pressure in all his tires and added the correct amount of air should he be short. All this, mind you, for .00 of gas.
But wait! There is more. The oil companies back then ALWAYS had some kind of gimmick going on to get people to buy gas from their station instead of the one across the street. Unless you were there to see this, what I am about to tell you would not be comprehensible today. For example, there was always some kind of contest going on. Every time somebody bought gas, he would be given something to collect, like a plastic coin or something, so he could instantly win a new car, or thousands of dollars, or more likely, nothing. The likelihood of winning anything was equal to being struck by lightning three days in a row at precisely 3:01 pm while being in a bomb shelter. Yet it kept them coming back for more gas.
But there is more. Come in and buy gas, and you could also haul off bottles of Coke, a dining room drinking glass, or a precision, plastic-handled steak knife for example. Every time you pulled in, you got another glass or steak knife to add to your collection. To this day, I am still cutting steak with a set of those knives. I have had them for 40 years. They are like early Ginsu knives that can cut through a stainless steel muffler. But we are not done yet. There were stamps. Stamps were everywhere. The most common, and the kind they gave away back East, were the S&H Green Stamps. Every time you spent a dollar, you would be given 10 of those green stamps to lick and paste into a book – about 50 stamps on one side of a page both front and back. There were approximately 10 pages per book, or 1000 stamps. It took a while to collect enough to fill out a book. Everybody carried that book around in his glove compartment in hopes of getting some kind of trinket. When you loaded up that bulging book, then you could take it down to an S&H Green Stamp Store and redeem it, or multiple numbers of other books of stamps, for some kind of prize. The more books of stamps you had, the bigger and more valuable the junk. But in Southern California, they gave away Blue Chip Stamps. The Blue Chip Stamp people gave away stamps at the same rate as the S&H Green Stamp people – 10 per .00. That is, until there was a GAS WAR. Now a Gas War was something to behold. People prayed for and lived for Gas Wars. We couldn’t wait till the battle lines were formed on some corner where there were four gas stations who decided to start discounting gas and almost giving it away. Sometimes two or more gas stations within competing range of one another would also try to outdo each other. If a station posted a “GAS WAR” sign out on the sidewalk with a lower price than the guy across the street, people raced in. If one owner saw people flocking across the street, he would go out and drop his price a penny, and the cars would move back across the street. The gas prices would sometimes drop more than once a day. A 5¢ decrease in gas today isn’t even worth driving across the street for, but if gas was 27.9¢ a gallon and they kept lowering it and lowering it till it got to 20.9¢ per gallon, that was significant. It was a 25% drop. That would be like .25 per gallon gas going down to .44per gallon. I remember one time that I had a 1970 VW Bug that got 32 mpg and had a 10 gallon gas tank. I once filled it up for .25 and drove that thing over 300 miles before doing it again.
But we still are not done. A Gas War was made even more significant when one of the competing stations would give away 10 times the regular amount of Blue Chip stamps than was normal. 10 times! So if a guy had a 20 gallon tank in his car, he could fill the car with gas in a Gas War not for .58 but for .18. Plus, he would either get a few gallons of Coke, a fancy glass or steak knife, a coin for a new car lottery, have his oil/fan belt/battery/windshield washer checked and serviced, get his tires properly inflated, have all his windows washed, AND get 500 Blue Chip stamps! One could fill up half a stamp book on one tank of gas and take home all that other crap as well. People were going down to the Blue Chip Redemption Center weekly to cash in on all kinds of merchandise. There was nothing like those days.
I remember well the Fall of 1973 when all of the above came to a screeching halt in ONE DAY. Just one day. Not a week or a month. ONE DAY. There was a so-called oil crisis back then, and I recall standing in a line of cars that was at least one mile long waiting to drive into a gas station to get gas. People were in the street cursing, and fist fights would break out if someone cut in line. Now the day before this oil crisis, a gas station couldn’t get you in there fast enough so they could unload all that Coke, air, oil, glasses, fan belts, water, steak knives, stamps, battery maintenance, and the chance to win millions. But the next day here I am trying to figure out why it was taking all night for me to get gas until I finally pulled up to the gas pump late that night. Whereas a regiment of smiling, polite men dressed in matching, clean uniforms and bent on doing service like bond slaves would pour out of any gas station office, attack your car, and perform the unbelievable ritual I just described above on the previous day, on this cold night I saw ONE – let me say this again – ONE guy sitting alone in the gas station office in front of the big window, resting on his backside with his feet upon the desk and WAITING for every person who drove up to fill HIS OWN tank and THEN bring him the money inside the office where he waited in warmth. All of a sudden, in just one day, the gas station attendant was totally unconcerned, not smiling, his attitude had dramatically changed, and he wasn’t ever going to move a single inch again. Self-serve signs went up as fast as the price of the gas. And from THAT VERY DAY until this, neither he nor any other gas station attendant has pumped a drop of gas for anybody except in the state of Oregon where it is ILLEGAL to pump your own gas. Up there, for making the poor under-employed devils of Oregon walk out to your car and put the gas in for you, the gas has a nice labor charge tacked on to it.
So one night I am sitting up late almost asleep in this Shell gas station waiting for one of the kings of California to drive in so that for .00 I can heap a pile of gifts upon him while he sits waiting for the oil-fan belt-windshield washer-tire-glass-steak knife-window washing-battery checking-tire pressure-lottery coin routine to end. It was deep into the morning when a California Highway Patrol officer came up the driveway and parked right in front of my window. The bell rang and poked me awake when he rolled over the tire hose. I jumped up and ran out to meet him. He then gave me this word of advice. He said that there had been a lot of robberies in the area lately, and he was keeping an eye out for graveyard shift attendants like myself. He said that the way it worked with these people is that they would come in, draw a gun, rob the joint, and then take the attendant for a walk outside and around to the bathroom where he would be shot and killed so that there were no witnesses. He said, “If I were you, I would carry a heavy wrench in my back pocket. If someone comes in here, draws a gun, robs you, and then wants you to take a nice leisure walk with him to the restroom, don’t do it. Withdraw that wrench and take your chances out here in the open because if you go in that bathroom, it is over.”
When he left, I thought to myself, “Oh…..okay. So that’s how it works. Well, just let some sad-sack come in here while I’m around and try to give me some crap. I’ll learn him. He’s gonna wish he had taken early retirement from a life of crime if he comes in here and starts brandishing big iron in my presence.” So I strolled to the back where an entire storehouse of Craftsman tools were neatly arranged for mechanical enterprise and hefted myself a couple of them to see which one felt like it was made for a thick skull. I waved and hatcheted them around a few times and brought them over my head like I was swinging a car battery and beating the crap out of someone who had just pulled a shotgun from out of his pants. Just to make it all sound even more authentic like the guys in the gas station, with each chop of a crowbar to someone’s head, I practiced intoning a few words I had heard from some of the scholars there at the garage whose vocabulary had been taught to them by the thugs down at the Reform school. I found a crescent wrench that felt just about right and jammed it in my right rear pocket. For several nights, I rehearsed seizing it deftly and withdrawing it authoritatively while swinging it with all my might so that I could stamp the word “Craftsman” right off the head of the tool and permanently onto somebody’s face and skull. It was going to be a sorry day for the sucker who came in there and thought I was going to nonchalantly promenade to the restroom or intended to borrow any of the boss’s tools without my authorization.
Speaking of the boss’s tools, here is the place to bring out another salient point that will become important later. The boss of the Shell station was very anal about his armory of tools. He told me when I was first hired that late at night there would be a parade of people driving around California who would come into the station with the intention of playing “Tool Time”, that is, adding some of the boss’s tools to their own personal collections. They would drive in late, said he, and want to borrow a tool to fix something on their cars. They would want a screw driver or a wrench or a socket or a hammer or something. And they would pretend to start in on repairs right there. But all the while they were watching me, said he, and waiting for me to get distracted with another car and that whole oil-gas-window-fan belt-tire-steak knife-battery-contest-glass-Coke-Blue Chip Stamp routine. At the opportune moment, they would leap into their car drive off down the street and conveniently forget to give back the boss’s tool after having placed it in their Midnight Tool Bag. This was an old trick, and the boss had been relieved of many costly tools over the years. So he got up in my face and sternly breathed down my neck while warning me upon pain of dismissal, “Don’t you NEVER let NOBODY touch them tools. Nobody. Never.” The boss only had a mechanical aptitude, not an academic one. So I made a mental note of that and swore to it. NO ONE was going to TOUCH the boss’s tools. Not ever. Over my dead body would the boss’s tools be used by anyone other than myself while I was enshrined to be his steward. There would be hell to pay for anyone who tried that trick on me.
So a few days passed, and I was keeping a wary and waking eye out for both murdering thieves and tool-takers lest I be overtaken in a dead sleep. But the nights were long and I was not used to staying fully aware till the crack of dawn. So usually about 2-3 am I was approaching the Twilight Zone. Hence, one morning I was sitting upright in the office chair peering out into the night with my eyes welded shut. All of a sudden I was jolted awake by the thunderous sound of a platoon of motorcycles roaring into the station. I abruptly jacked to attention trying to comprehend just exactly where I was and noted immediately that the Hell’s Angels of California were uponme and were circling the pumps like sharks around chum. Half staggering out the door and patting my backside for that wrench – just in case I had to open a couple cans of whoop-ass on somebody – I was trying to come to life quickly in case I had to get rough. The leader of the pack came straight for me and stopped just short of crushing my foot with his 700 pound motorcycle. Lucky for him. His hair was long and scraggly, and his pock-marked face looked like the surface of the moon underneath a mane of beard. He looked like he had killed people. I swallowed hard as if a cue ball had gone down my throat. He had grease on his face, hands, and pants. His fingernails were black underneath. He threw his massive leg over his steed and walked directly up to me like Gorilla Monsoon. He parked his scarred, hole-ly face and fetid breath just inches from my nose. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed that his scuzzy compatriots had parked over by the restrooms and were casing that location. Some were already headed in there to wait for me. All of them were suspiciously looking around. I figured this was it, the moment I had fortunately been mentally and physically preparing for by imaginatively hammering and slashing criminals into mince. “Don’t go in the restrooms. Take your chances out here” was going through my mind. So somebody was about to get a big surprise tonight. If you mess with the bull, you are going to get the horns.
The Hell’s Angel guy looked me directly in the eye like he meant to add another notch to his handlebars and croaked out, “Listen, man, I got a problem. There’s something loose on this bike. I need some tools. Do you have some wrenches I can borrow?” Oh, so we’re gonna play “Tool Time,” huh? By now, others were approaching and standing nearer. It took me about a second to give him a no uncertain answer to his question about the likelihood of him or anybody else using the boss’s tools, but before I did, I took measure of the situation and the predicament I was in. This all happened almost instantly, but it went like slow motion in my mind. I went over the boss’s words one more time to give myself new resolve in what I was about to say, “Don’t NEVER let NOBODY touch them tools,” Then I recalled the Highway Patrol saying, “Don’t go into the restroom. Take your chances out here,” So I said – TO MYSELF, “I am not taking any bovine waste material off of you or anybody else. It is time for you to get your leeward clefts back on those cheap pieces of scrap and hit the road, you filthy bags of human waste, before I have to unpack an entire case of whoop-ass right here and right now.”
Then without further hesitation and like a bolt of lightning, my hand fired to the back of my pants and that pocket that secretly lodged that wrench he did not see. I am surprised to this day how smooth that move was. My hand landed precisely on the ice-cold handle of that crescent wrench. With one move, I withdrew that wrench and brought it over my head as fast as I could and landed it squarely and gently directly into the palm of his open hand – with the handle toward him – and said, “Listen, not only do I have THIS wrench, but do you see that wall and those red tool boxes over there with all those wrenches, screwdrivers, and sockets? You can use those too. In fact, I’ll tell you what I am going to do. Do you see that lift there? You can even use that…free of charge.”

Inexpensive Valentine Day Gift Idea

This Valentine’s are you low on budget? Are you looking for a gift that is special and romantic but inexpensive at the same time? Are you scared that your inexpensive gift may seem tacky to your girlfriend?
Well, let me then suggest that you gift a romantic love story or novel to your girlfriend this year. A book is inexpensive in monetary terms yet valuable on the emotional and intelligence scale. You can rest assured that your gift will not only be considered special but will also be cherished by her. The only trick is you have to know which book to choose. That is right. A book gift may seem like an easy and inexpensive gift choice but to make it special you have to be very careful about your book selection.
For example if your girlfriend is in her mid thirties and you gift her a book from the popular Twilight series, I am not sure how she will take it.
On the other hand, if your girlfriend is zesty and sprightly, gifting her Gone With The Wind may make a lot of sense.
You also need to be careful while writing the right preface for your gift. For example if you have selected the wild and passionate love story of Wuthering Heights as your gift then you need to tell your girlfriend why you have done so.
Your reason behind selecting your book gift will make the gift gain significance for your lover. She will keep your thoughts in mind while reading the book and the story in the book will hold a lot of value in your relationship. She will cherish the gift forever.
In case you need more help on choosing inexpensive valentine day gifts for your love, then read ‘Gift a Book: 101 ideas- Ultimate guide to the best gifts‘.

The Top Trends At The Consumer Electronics Show

Here are our observations about the top trends at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. We spent five days there checking out the gadgets, parties, and press conferences. Check out how well these trends match up against our predictions from before the show.
Information from: http://www.topztrade.com
3-D TV in the home. Some years, it’s hard to figure out the trends at CES. This year, it was easy because every big company talked about viewing 3-D movies, TV shows and games in the living room. Blame it on Avatar. The advocates include LG Electronics, Toshiba, Samsung, Sharp, Panasonic, Sony, Intel, and Nvidia. Some of the companies gave 30 percent of their press conference airtime to 3-D. Nvidia had the best 3-D viewable images (as far as we saw) on a racing game. That’s because personal computers can use the best dedicated 3-D graphics hardware, making for more realism. Both Panasonic and Samsung unveiled a whole ecosystem of products from glasses to 3-D ready TVs.
Last year, the 3-D craze was just getting started. But the billion-dollar box office revenues of Avatar made made all of the difference. The movie’s 3-D experience is truly immersive, not formulaic. Another 50 3-D movies will be released in 2010. Movie theaters love them because they give people a reason to come to the theater, and because they can’t be pirated. But TV vendors love it because it will give consumers a reason to go back to stores, even after they’ve already bought their high-definition screens.
As good as this sounds, we’re not sure it’s going to be as big as HD TV itself. There are still lots of skeptics out there who won’t watch in 3-D because it gives them a headache. They’re not likely to pay extra for it. And it could be some time still before all of the 3-D ecosystem — with content, cameras, TVs, and glasses — are available in a lot of homes. We don’t expect every movie to be as good as Avatar, either. Samsung and Sharp may be able to boost the market some because they have technologies that can convert 2-D programs to 3-D on the fly. But 3-D is at least off to a good start in 2010 and it will trickle down from the theaters to homes in due time.
Tablets by the dozen. Apple is expected to launch a tablet computer at the end of the month. But everyone at CES wanted to show off their own cool designs first so that they won’t look like copycats. Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer showed off three tablets in his keynote, including Hewlett-Packard’s tablet. But HP was very light on details, perhaps because it wants to wait to see what Apple launches. Most tablet makers would be wise to do the same. But the foundations were all there at CES: touchscreens, swipe controls, content such as eBooks, and chips from companies such as Intel, Qualcomm, Broadcom and Marvell. Tablets have been around for a while, but the new ones should be much more responsive to touch commands. Of all of those who have models in the works, HP will likely be the best challenger to Apple, says Richard Doherty, analyst at the Envisioneering Group. That’s because HP has decades of experience with touchscreens, has a lot of TouchSmart computers already in the market, and has a big collection of touchscreen patents as well. We only wish we saw more of it in action.
New devices may bring e-books to the masses. It looks like both device-makers and publishers are expecting books to be a major part of the content on those tablets. After all, Microsoft’s Ballmer showed off the HP tablet’s touchscreen by accessing an Amazon Kindle application and flipping through a few pages of the bestselling novel Twilight. Meanwhile, Plastic Logic launched its Que e-book reader, which is one of the most impressive-looking devices in its market (it had better be, since the device is also substantially more expensive than Amazon’s Kindle).
With these devices, not to mention Apple set to announce its all-but-official tablet/e-book reader later this month, readers’ embrace of e-books as a complement or even replacement for physical books may ramp up dramatically in the next year. As that happens, the question is whether e-book readers can compete against fully-fledged tablets. Are the reader manufacturers in trouble? Will they have to make their devices more tablet-like to compete?
Oh, and the shift may not be limited traditional books — a startup called Graphic.ly, which was also demonstrated on-stage at Ballmer’s keynote, is developing a digital comic book reader and store.
Netbooks are getting more and more attractive. These machines make perfect sense with their smaller screens, low prices, and sole purpose of cruising the web. But the first generation of netbooks that came out about 18 months ago had return rates as high as 40 percent. They didn’t play games, choked on a lot of web sites, and were generally a lousy consumer experience. Despite that, netbooks are selling in the tens of millions and there were dozens of new models at the show. Now, with the newest generation of low-power technology, the category is no longer just a bunch of hype. The machines can live up to their billing. The latest Intel Atom chips give these 0 or so machines a lot of oomph to do tasks that once required full laptops. Toshiba’s new Toshiba Mini NB 350 has an 11 hour battery life. HP’s new Mini 5102 netbook has a touchscreen. About 33 million netbooks sold in 2009, and that should grow 20 percent in 2010, according to market researcher DisplaySearch. The category will get competition from smartbooks, which are hybrids of smart phones and netbooks, and perhaps e-book readers and tablets as well.
Everyone’s jumping on the app store band wagon, and they’re bringing plenty of devices. After Apple found big success with its iPhone/iPod Touch App Store, other smartphone makers followed suit. Now the model is moving to other devices, particularly those netbooks we mentioned. Intel announced AppUp, which netbook makers can customize to offer their own stores to customers. Samsung announced its store too, which appears to use AppUp technology. Netbooks seem like the obvious next step for this model, since they sit between the sophistication of a normal laptop and a smartphone. At the same time, you could see this as a blow for native apps over the “net” part of netbooks, since netbooks are supposed to be all about accessing the web, not downloading applications. Google has been the most vocal about this, declaring that “all apps are web apps” in its forthcoming netbook operating system, Chrome OS.
The vision isn’t limited to netbooks, but encompasses TVs, PCs, and other devices too. Samsung, in particular, promoted its apps’ cross-device capabilities. It’s not about TV apps, or phone apps. It’s about apps that work across all devices, storing your activity so that your behavior on one device carries over the others. As companies release new gadgets (see the tablet trend above) and old devices get web connected (see the TV trend below), these kinds of cross-device features will become more crucial.
New user interfaces abound. Ever since the iPhone and the Nintendo Wii debuted, the tech industry has been experimenting with new ways to control devices. Touchscreens have infiltrated lots of products, from Microsoft’s pricey Surface tables to everyday cell phones. At the show, Motorola debuted its Backflip phone with a touch surface in the back of a phone, allowing you to control the screen without obstructing your view of it. The iPhone’s accelerometers introduced the intuitive shake or tilt functions that add more nuance to your controls. Synaptics, meanwhile, showed what is possible by combining touch with other controls in its and Fuse and Scrybe demos. This should be quite useful for future phones and tablets.
Gesture controls are also taking a leap forward. Microsoft said it would launch Project Natal, which has camera-based sensors that can detect your full body movements, for the Xbox 360 in the fall of 2010. Sony was strangely silent about its rival technology debuting this spring. But companies such as GestureTek, Canesta and others showed off their own technologies for controlling TVs or other gear with gestures. It remains to be seen how well users will warm to these new control schemes, and how soon software takes advantage of it.
Mobile TV gets competitive. Qualcomm has invested hundreds of millions of dollars into its FloTV business. The company has acquired the spectrum it needs to broadcast mobile digital TV programming wirelessly to cell phones (including the iPhone) and its own FloTV handheld player. But now it has some competition from the Open Mobile Video Coaltion, which has passed a Mobile Digital TV standard. New devices based on the standard were shown at CES, but the battery life and usefulness are still lacking. While Qualcomm has a national network with a wide variety of programming, the Open Mobile group can so far only produce local digital TV programming in 30 cities. The Open Mobile group offers the service for free, while Qualcomm charges a subscription. Unlike the other trends, this one is still emerging and was evident in just a handful of booths. Like digital TV, it may take a long time to evolve. But consumers will probably watch TV on their handhelds, when it comes in crystal clear video and has enough content. A proof point is Telegent, whose chips provide analog TV programming for cell phones around the world. Telegent is lining up an initial public offering on the strength of its international business. If analog TV can take off, then it probably means there will be demand for mobile digital TV.
Cars get smarter. Ford has seen a great deal of success with its Sync voice-controlled car electronics system. In surveys, 32 percent of buyers said Sync was important or critical in their decisions to buy a Ford vehicle. Ford hit its target of selling a million vehicles with Sync last May. About 81 percent of customers are satisfied with Sync and 77 percent would recommend it. This week, Ford said that developers can create apps that can run on Sync, it will give users 3G or Wi-Fi access inside the car, and it has redesigned its dashboard to be electronics friendly. You can plug in your iPods, phones, memory cards and other devices into the deck.
Not every car is going to be so connected in the future. But Ford’s moves show that the car companies are finally moving to an annual cycle for driving new technology into their vehicles, instead of the usual five years. It’s also heartening to hear that we’re not all heading for a big pile-up. Ford says that Sync lets drivers choose a new song with voice commands in 4.9 seconds, while it takes 30 seconds without it. The company is trying to minimize distractions for the driver even as it adds more stuff for you to do while you’re driving. Ford was just one example of myriad other car-related announcements at CES.
Connected TVs catch on. Web-connected TVs are now proliferating through the model line-ups of consumer electronics companies. Last year, Yahoo launched its Widget Engine to enable TVs to display web sites on a TV using a remote control. Samsung, LG, Toshiba and Sony have all shipped TVs with the Widget Engine. In 2009, sales of web-connected TVs rose 830 percent from a small base, according to the Consumer Electronics Association. This year, growth is expected to be about 129 percent, and Yahoo expects its Widget Engine will be on millions of TVs. That gives the TVs access to thousands of web sites, ranging from Netflix to Pandora. Samsung, which says it captured 75 percent of the connected-TV market in 2009, is adding an app store so that users will have more choice about what they can access via the connected TVs.
Green tech gadgets get real. Green technology is moving from the sounds good, lip-service stage to real products. The big consumer electronics companies halted their arms race of making bigger and bigger flat-panel displays (although there was an 84-inch TV on display in LG’s booth). Instead, they talked up the better energy efficiency of LED TVs and thinner sizes. Hewlett-Packard got rid of some toxic chemicals in its PCs and has switched to entirely degradeable packaging. About 20 companies displayed their wares in a green tech zone on the show floor. And most big TV makers had flat-panel displays in their booths with wattage data.

Making Money Online: How To Find Your Niche In The Market
Posted: Apr 03, 2010 |
]]>
For anyone who wants to make money online, finding their niche is the first and most important step that they need to learn about. The niche is that sector of the online marketplace that you should corner and focus all your online moneymaking efforts on. When you target a specific niche with laser-like precision, you increase your chances of making money online, you make your work easier for you, and you also lower your chances of getting burned out later on.
Now, how do you find a specific niche on which you can focus all your efforts in making money online? Here is how:
1. Find out what drives you. Running an online business can be a time-consuming project. It can also require some emotional investment, especially if it is your first time to try out making money online. To make it easier for you, you should list down the things you are passionate about. And then you find products and services that fit.
For example, if you are a bookworm, you can try becoming an affiliate marketer for online booksellers like Amazon.com. Since you love books, it will not be difficult for you to find selling points for them and convincing your target audience why they should buy this or that book.
2. Find a specific product that you know a lot about. To be able to sell a product or service effectively, you need to be knowledgeable about the product. It may be tough for you to learn new information about a specific product at this point, so it may be best for you to start with what you already know. In this way, it will be easier for you to promote your product because you already know what to promote about it.
So let us say that you love books. Naturally, it is possible for you to like certain genres more than others. So let us pretend here that you like reading books in the horror genre. You can focus your online moneymaking efforts on horror, ghost stories or vampire tales.
3. Find out market demand. You can learn about market demand for your niche by zeroing in on specific keywords to use. In our horror and vampire books example, if you use the Google Adwords keywords tool and if you type in “vampire books” in the search box, it will give you a list of keywords used in the last month related to “vampire books.” You will notice that among the list of keywords are vampire books written by Anne Rice and the books in Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga. You will also notice that those keywords have a high ranking, indicating that there is a high demand for those books. So, you now have a target niche and possible products to sell.
It is not that difficult to find a niche when you try to make money online. It is, nonetheless, the first and most important thing you need to learn about when you are making money online.

The principle of entrepreneurship still applies in principle, but the medium has changed drastically. This is probably the best time in our history to pursue entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurs are defying the logic and business rationale to make things happen individually. Gone are the days when you needed huge capital and veteran management teams to form companies and to wait for another several years to rake in the profit.

Luckily for her, the Twilight fans Ive spoken with have really enjoyed her work and are anxiously awaiting the sequels. When I spoke to Melissa Rosenberg a few months ago we talked about how the increased budget changed the way she writes and what did she have to edit out of books two and three to make them into movies. This time I decided to ask about her reaction to watching New Moon, has she seen any of Eclipse, who came up with the way to keep Rob Pattinson in the movie as a ghost-type image, and I also tried to find out, hypothetically speaking, if she thinks more would have to make greater changed for the fourth book in the series, Breaking Dawn. I also asked if she has an opinion on Breaking Dawn being two movies. If youre a fan of The Twilight Saga, youll love the interview. Here’s what we talked about: –What was her reaction to seeing the film for the first time –How hard has it been to find the voice of the movie versus the fans expectations –Who came up with the way to keep Rob Pattison in the movie as a ghost type …
